Can anyone shed some light on the theory that after pulling up & lifting the bonnet allows longer battery life. I know of someone that practices this & they seem to be able to keep batteries for years longer than anyone else.

Jack,
Comes down to heat mate. High temps kill bateries quicker than a stubbie in the sun. Opening the bonnet would simply allow the heat to disipate quicker and allow the battery to cool. Never heard of anyone doing it. But I suppose it wouldn't hurt.
Cheers,
