gday all

no its not mine.
just talking to a bloke who has an '05 3.0 navara TD that periodically resorts to running in 'limp mode'. no special time that it does this but can only be driven at 80 klm/h.
Does anybody have an explanation as to why this is occurring?

His name is Rob and he will be reading this so if anyone can help him that would be terrific.

thanx in advance,cheers.

Come on Mark, it's 3.0 litre and it's a Nissan.

Have a guess!

How's life treating you mate?

hi there, does the orange engine icon on the dash light up while it's doing this? Mine does sometimes too. usually the next day all is fine. It's only done this about once a year.
Or does the engine lack power in third gear mostly? (there is an explanation for this, I'll wait for your reply) Rus.

Try Changing your fuel filter, the light comes on if its got water in it. Mine did it to me half way across the Nullarbor, lucky I had a spare with me and stopped and got another one at the first major town.

May not be this but, worth a try.

Yes mate, got home to the Illawarra ok. But it did play up again maybe a month later. I put it down to picking up some dirty fuel on the Nullarbor and it took a while to get rid of the crap out of the tank. The next step was to drain and clean the tank but it never did it again.

If its an auto it could be a blocked transmission filter, the transmission gets hot and it goes into limp mode - only happened to me while towing
The previous mechanic only drained and refilled. Now i go to an auto transmission place who remove the pan and replace the filter as well
Havent had the problem since
