Twice I have had emails stating my payments cannot be processed and they provide a link to give details, yesterday I thought I would just have a look at the link to see what info they wanted , as soon as the page opened the AVG security went off it's brain warning the link is a Phishing site, so I contacted Bigpond ,Has anyone else recieved these, the following is the reply.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your email dated 1/4/09 regarding Alert about your Telstra Internet billing
information on file.
What you have received is a phishing hoax email. Please be advised that Telstra is not
associated in this kind of email that you have received. We will also not send you any emails requesting account or financial information. If, however, you have received an email message that claims to be a genuine message sent from a telstra.com, telstra.com.au or bigpond.com address and you believe it to be suspicious, the best course of action is to not open the email or to open any attachments that may be sent with it. Please be advised to ignore this kind of email.
If you wish to verify whether an email has been sent to you by Telstra or BigPond, please contact us.

Doug
We have now had the same thing twice. I did notice that the URL of the attachment was from Germany.
I also contacted telstra and deleted the emails quickly.

Yeah had a few of these also Doug.
I use Mail washer and it displays the URL that they try and hide behind a face listing such a Telstra Accounts or similar so I know that its crap before even downloading or opening the email.
Get them from all over the place, banks are always popular to.
I just delete them and don't get to excited anymore.

Yes Doug - my daughter got the same a week or so ago - an obvious phising, but she does have Bigpond, and had recently made a payment. Someone is tapping into data.

Someone is hacking into the data base. Most phising goes to everyone. I have got them for every bank I've never dealt with as
well as eBay and Paypal.
My daughter did notify Telstra about the scam.
I don't know why my response appeared twice - a stutter in the system??

Yep - I've had two - just mouse over any link provided (proceed to etc etc etc) in the hoax email and you'll see the link at the bottom of the window - it'll be some odd web address and have nothing to do with Telstra or anybody cosher...... as mentioned above,
mine had a German domain too.
