You can find a complete 1HZ engine manual here http://www.scribd.com/doc/7110020/1hd-1hz-1pzt-Engine - 348 pages of it . You might find what you are looking for there.

Thanks Barry, I know the factory settings but some users prefer different settings for their turbo, thanks again, aussiedingo

The valve clearance is not readily adjustable. To change the settings you'd have to change the 12 shims. Never heard of anyone going to that much trouble.

G'day Phil, I am in the process of doing new pistons, rings & bearings, as well as the head right now in my shed, I have heard a lot of different valve settings - want to hear more from experienced users, thanks for your reply, aussiedingo

I wasn't sure whether you were referring to the factory turbo 1HD-T or a 1Hz with aftermarket turbo. But in any case, they have the same clearances:
Inlet 0.15-0.25mm
Exhaust 0.35-0.45mm
I have 3 manuals and a sticker under the bonnet of my daughter's 1Hz which all give the same specs.

The 1HD=FT 24 valve factory TD is totally different with adjustable tappets and slightly different clearances.

There a link to 1Hz clearances and an Excel spreadsheet HERE.

If it is a 1HZ with after market TURBO set them to the open side of the specs.

STD Intake 1.5 - 2.5 set between 2.0 and 2.5 for turbo
STD Exhaust. 3.5 - 4.5 set between 4.0 and 4.5 for turbo

Factory 1HDT is the same specs I believe but check first

DO NOT GO OUT SIDE THE SPECS

It usually better to set them on the higher side anyway so it takes longer for them to go out of spec again.
