Dear all, we are planning a trip to
Gregory and Keep NP's NT in Aug.
Re the Keep, does anyone know whether it's still possible to exit to the NW at the top of the park at Big Police Hole to
Wyndham as is shown on the 1:100k maps ? ( we know from earlier friends' travels many years ago that it was do-able).
The NT Parks info doesn't indicate such a route.
Cheers.
John.

No.you will have to back track out onto the highway and into
kununurra. Then go out over ivanhoe crossong and onto Parry creek road.Turn right just after Parry creek
farm and then right again after Marlgu BB and then this will take you around Bastion
Bluff and into
Wyndham.Very scenic drive.

Thats correct. If ever going via the Highway into
Wyndham you could take the
Old Halls Creek road into Parrys creek
Farm and
Marlgu Billabong (Parrys Lagoon). Another scenic route. But the backroad from
Kununurra to
Wyndham is
well worth the drive. Never get sick of that road.

We went both ways - to
Wyndham from the
Gibb River Road on the highway - a lovely scenic drive, then to
Kununurra via the Parry Creek Road, but took the chicken track via Valentine Springs rather than take the caravan across the
Ivanhoe Crossing.

Hi
Don't think so. There may be closed tracks which you could negotiate over but I don't recall anything. This track would also bypass the
quarantine station at the border, not something that officialdom would encourage.

We drove through the park, past Big Police
Waterhole and out again to Alberts
Waterhole in 1987 but then the track petered out. That part was very overgrown and we were making heavy weather through the grass in the Suzuki.
Looking a todays mapping it seems like that
waterhole is on Spirit
Hill Station. Saw one big daddy of a croc in there. We camped for a day and the old croc cruised up and down the
waterhole coming closer and closer to where we were and so we decided in the late afternoon to vacate the place and leave it to the original inhabitant.

Many thanks Willem, if NTPW haven't closed it off, we might try it at least to Big Police.

Ask Cameron (the
Ranger) at Keep, but I doubt it.

Rang Cameron just now. Apparently NTPW use the southern end as mngmt access to do croc surveys at Big Police
waterhole but after that the track doesn't exist anymore. J.
