The sand spear - this only works if the water table under the sand is fresh water right ?
does not take salt water and make is sweet ?

that's correct, it won't make salt water into fresh water. it's just a vehicle for getting the water out of the ground. it's got a filter on the end which stops all the fine stuff from being sucked up it, but doesn't purify it at all.

Thanks Kev,
Seems like a lot of trouble and expense for what it actually does.
Each to his own I suppose.
Cheers.......Lionel.

Mark where are you planning to use the sand spear?
The National Parks Nazis have banned them on Fraser Island. (God alone knows why - its the perfect place for it & now we all have to drink the treated crap from campgrounds).
You could use it to get water on Teewah Beach but you'd probably get hepatitis from the all the human waste buried in the sand.
I've seen them used on Fraser (pre-banning) and they were great, but unless you're going somewhere seriously remote, and staying there, they seem like a lot of mucking around & expense for not a lot of benefit.
just my 2cw. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
cheers
Ben

Ben,
"You could use it to get water on Teewah Beach but you'd probably get hepatitis from the all the human waste buried in the sand. "
Thats also the primary reason they have "banned" them on Fraser.
Sewerage buried in the dunes seeping into the ground water with predicable results.
Now if you use one and get sick you cant sue them because they didnt tell you.
Cheers
