Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Holden (Kittles) has a bad reputation amongst locals in Alice - having lived here only 12 months weve heard some horror stories, and had friends who have paid for a service on new 200s cruiser without any service being attended (filters marked, etc) they were offered a refund. Outback Automotive (08 89520123) or Country diesel (08 89521712) service a lot of local 4wds.

Hi Leroy,

I used to take my 2.8TD patrol to Alice Off Road Mechanical Service. There addresss is 6 Brown St (off smith st). They always did a good job on mine, and I know a couple tour operators out that way use them too.

I left that part of the country almost 2 years ago now, so can't confirm what they're like these days, but definitely recommend them from past experience.

And personally, unless you want to pay twice the price for half the service, I'd take a very wide berth of the kittles...

thanks for the heads up on Kittles. I never thought a country dealer could have such a bad rep!

Yes I have heard the same story about the Alice Nissan people, I had a relative working their.

As the 80km service is a large one, my advice is to either get this service done before you go and get an oil and filter change along the way. Or get an oil and filter change at Alice and have your 80km service when you return home.

If you have done really hard travelling you may consider other oils ie diff etc.

The Darwin Nissan dealer also does not enjoy a good reputation either.

I've organised a date with Intune Automotive so we shall see how I go. I'm keen to do this major service before the rougher stuff as a sanity check. Also had the off river xing etc so it's 40k since the last time the fronts were repacked. I reckon it would be fine to go now but nothing like another set of eyes ;)
