Skytrek Feedback

This was the second time i've done it after doing it in 2001. It's a hell of a lot rougher in the mountain parts, so make sure you have a 4WD with low range, A/T tyres & let out some air. They climb to the summit was very rough, but you'll get there.

Have you been up Mt Gill at Warraweena? Supposedly a better track than Skytrek

Much of Much-ness Willie, in the last few years I would probably rate Skytrek as a bit harder due to large holes etc and loose rocks, due to inexperienced drivers with high pressures.

Both are worth the drive, and on more than one occassion.

Warraweena has huge advantage of numerous tracks

Skytrek is due to be graded and cleaned up, but I think that Brendan is waiting for the ground to soften up some more. The track should see some maintenance over the next few months.

I actually hope he leaves it as is. It used to be better before the harder parts were removed.

But understand the easier he makes it the more dollars it can turn over with softer offroaders doing the track.

Yes, personally I couldn’t agree more, but maintaining the track is actually part of his contractual agreement. I guess being a public tourism venue means it has to be in reasonable condition so that the average four wheel driver can get up and enjoy the magnificent views without fear of damaging his vehicle.

Did it back in 2005 and the track was in pretty good nick. Will be up that way again in early May so hopefully can give it another go.

Willem mentioned Warraweena ??
Can you just rock up and stay ( and drive the sites ) or do you need to phone ahead and book ??

Rong Stony or Gina or email. The place is very popular during peak times and is often booked out by large groups up to a year in advance. As it is a sanctuary the number of visitors is managed to keep the environment in good condition

Hi Desert Lux,

I agree with you. Did the Skytrek by end of December last year. Was quite rough in places, would only recommend it for 4WD with low range and good ground clearance.

Really enjoyed it, was a hell of a fun. ;-)

Cheers from bloody boring Dortmund/Germany,
