We have been reading lately that Lake Eyre is filling up again. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we would find out more about travelling to Lake Eyre, what time to go, where to camp etc. to see this awesome event? Has anyone been there recently?

Hi T & J,

The only info I can find (its a pictorial as well) is http://www.wrightsair.com.au/lake.htm.

They have photos current for this month.

We were at Halligan Bay on Easter Saturday.
There was water 200m from the lake edge.
There is no water visible from Level Post Bay (Muloorina).

There is camping at Halligan Bay near the lake or in William Creek (see the pub)

If you base yourself at William Creek you will have an excellent spot to explore from. Talk to Trevor Wright at Wright Air and organise yourself a flight as it will be the only way you can really appreciate the country and the experience. As well as getting the best photographs. But book a flight well in advance if you are heading up there in peak time

As of Saturday there was a 4 day wait for flights unless you were booked in.

Thanks for this. Will look into William Creek, and get on to flight service before we leave to book a flight early.
