Have a very strange problem....
when using IE (ver 6.0.2900) with this site I have encountered something very strange.
I open IE and it goes to Google (home page)
I then click on favourites and then saved link forum @ explor oz

If I close down IE (eg hit the red X) before it has had time to get and open up EO I get the mouse curser hand plus eggtimer and then up pops all these window IE pages (google home page) all trying to access the forum @ explore oz...some 40 or 50 windows open up and eventually they all close sometimes bringing up the message "IE has encounterd a problem and must close"

Have tried it with other sites and they dont do it...only appears to be this site. If I dont close down IE while it is trying to get here everything seems okay..its only happens when I close IE while it is getting the page.

I am on cable and behind a netgear router so I connected directly to cable modem and it still did it.

anyone got any ideas?...

Very sorry Willem I have had the wife beat me with a wet teatowl to make me remember.

At least I stuck to the subject unlike some who conduct an old mates catch up that are off topic on some posts .

Not referring to you by the way.
Cheers

You possibly have a virus and it is forcing you to a fake google.

Do the ads look strange?

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago .... after I did a windows update on XP. Are you running XP? I didn't have a virus. It is definitely related to harware/software conflict. Try another update from Microsoft; if it doesn't cure it you will have to update to IE7 and get all the updates, otherwise it will happen again. Either that, or return your operating system back to a "saved point" about 3 days prior to the conflict happening and don't do any more windows updates. I did find that the conflict was mostly on this site, and on sites with a similar layout to EO (eg. multi layering of data etc.) Hope this helps.

I dont do updates for XP...they can get stoofed. Last time I did an update and had a video card failure later i had to reregister XP as it detected major hardware changes (which wasnt there under sp2..only came in after sp2)...since then i have new comp and sp2 only installed.

Strange that you dont see any kids saying they are having probs with Grandads laptop.
Usually they are the ones to ask to fix them.

Most computer problems are caused by the connection between the chair and the mouse.

Think about it.

Graham,

MN1's been there before with kids and computers. He is a serial offender as such.

Also, some grandads know more than the kids :)))

yep i know more than the kids..they only know how to stuff it up, and when it goes kaput they ask me "whats wrong with it dad"?

i dont think it was them as some strange things have been happening of late...like pages very slow to load as i said above but only seems to be EO

also, i run quicken share analyser and sometimes the downloads wont work via the wireless router....works ok everytime when i connect direct to modem but only occurs only sometimes when connected (by wire ) to router. I have been disconnecting the firewall in router to test router etc etc but problem is erratic, sometimes the downloads work sometimes they dont.
the router sends the wireless signal for computers in house.......maybe these problems are somehow related...this problem with EO happens even when connected dirct to modem so its not the router

Why don't you copy the Forum shortcut in favorites to the desktop, then drag it into the quick Launch bar, "1 click and your gone" .
I been using Opera lately, seems better than Firefox.
