Canning Stock Route

Going on our first trip on the Canning Stock Route and would love
to hear from anyone who has done some or all how it went, what little quirky things are needed besides obvious camping gear, water, permits, fuel etc.

?

If you want to interact on this forum then a name would be useful.

Here is a CSR report of some years ago. Not much has changed since then except for more corrugations

Have you checked out the trek notes on the site? There are also plenty of blogs from people who have travelled the route. Here are three links to blogs. The search feature will find you a whole lot more. Cheers Mick.

Canning 06 - from the north

Canning 07 - from the south

Canning 08 - Around the middle

very well prepared vehicle . the sand dunes are unlike the simpson as they don,t have a big run up ,they have a sharp turn at the base of them and it can be very deep soft sand .
we did it in 05 from the north to south ,if you are very heavily loaded the 1st couple of days is esay going as you are travelling through flat station tracks type of country which allows you to shed some serious weight before getting into the sand dunes .
cheers mechpete.
we had a dream run with 2 vehicles an 3 dirt bikes

Take it easy. Decent tyre pressures (lower) will make the ride better, and use less fuel over the dunes.
Stop and have a chat to all passer byes....helpful with info about the road ahead.
Top up water always.
Use Channel 40...many idiots choose not to then you find them at the top of the dune (dont think they can read the signs).
Break periodically to let your shocks cool down over the heavy corrugated sections...spares shocks handy.
Roof topper is what I will use next time...too many camels too close to camp.
Sat phone for keeping in touch.
and Have Fun.
Brett....
