Can't get a straight answer from the wreckers (and in their defence they have hundreds of cars on their mind).
I am wanting to know if the GQ and the GU share the same
seat frame?
Looking at replacing my GQ seats with more comfortable ones but found out that putting in seats from another type of car is illegal but if they share the same frame then there is no problem.
Trying to find the cheapest way to upgrade my seats for comfort without going down the very expensive Recaro etc path.
If I can find a nice TI with plush seats then that would be great! If I can use GU seats in my GQ also then that widens my chance of finding them at a wreckers.
Thanks,

Can't help you with the frame but I reckon that my GQ seats are far more comfortable that me mates GU. Maybe because
mine is and RX and his is a DX?

I also have the RX model but with my bad back/neck from too many years in the Army I am now looking at more lumbar support which our
seat doesn't have any of.
I have not sat in a TI model but I assume those seats are quite good.

Gossy,
Put a claim into DVA if your back injury is service related and get them to pay for a decent drivers
seat in the GQ :)
At least then you will have a legal and very comfortable
seat.
Cheers Kev

Being rather tallish I have removed the left foot rest on the firewall and that gives me the ability to stretch a tad more.

Willem!! I haven't removed the foot rest but i removed the plastic stop from under the accelerator pedal and bent the pedal down so full throttle is on the floor. Its amazing how much more room another 30mm give you. The normal accelerator pedal is not really comfortable anyway, its way too high, it feels more natural when lower, when you get used to it.. I assume the GQ is the same deal.. Michael

Hi
If it's just lumbar support you are after then buy some pump up lumbar pillows eg
http://www.motorcare.com.au/lumbar.htm
They worked good in a Prado, Landcruiser and then into Recaros I eventually bought.
They are easy to fit as you can usually unclip the backrest material at the lower rear of the
seat and then you slide them up to where you want them.
Incidentally the Recaros came with a piece of foam approx 12mm thick and 250 X 100mm to slide in for lumbar support - worked a treat in our Xtrail as the Standard nissan
seat in those has no lumbar support.

After many phone calls and pricing seats etc I have decided to go down the "rebuild" path.
I have bought two lower lumbar cushions from the chemist ($30 each) and will buy some foam from clark rubber to add some extra comfort and then cover all this will 25mm high grade wool
seat covers (the best you can get from autobahn etc are 18mm lower quality covers).
Because it's a bush basher I can save money on the
seat covers by not having the high grade wool on the backs. This brings the price down from around $700/pair to around $250/pair :)
Hopefully the end result will be "sheer luxury!".
