Hi All The 1993 Mav is having auto door lock issues. They just stopped working then started again for while then no more.I have changed the batteries in both key units. The immobiliser is still working from the key unit, just will not open/close the doors. The key will central lock all the door locks.I still worked out what the red button on the key unit does?I have disconnected the main battery several times and this work either.Boy this is frustrating me to drink. Is there a sequence that you need to push buttons to reset the unit ?Hammer time ? Helppppp....

..is the door lock system 'ex factory', or an 'aftermarket' install ?

The centeral locking is factory but I think the remote key control unit is aftermarket as the owners manual doesnt mention it.

..couple of things

..it may not be the remote, quite often all doors are slaved of the 'driver's door' solenoid, particularly if there was an aftermarket add on done.

Given age of vehicle the the driver door solenoid may be shot. They can test 'ok' with a meter, but actually need replacing. Last time I did my driver door (the third time) non factory replacement was only about $30.

..of course there is the battery in the remote, but I think u mentioned that already. Battery can have enough juice to, light the LED but not enough guts to properly oscillate the little transmitter.

I'd gingerly remove the door panel and also have a look and the solenoid mechanicals, and lock linkages, too.

Thanks I will replace the battery first and then if that fails I will check the solenoid.Where do you buy a after market solenoid?
I know some of the locks dont pop open properly (fullly) I think they may be dry and need of some lubrication.Yes old age can be a problem just like my knee and shoulder !

..pretty sure previous mob went OOB.

I'll check latest in the AM and post tomorrow.

Dick Smith have most of the tiny 'remote' batteries, ..there are at least a dozen different types.

..good news and bad news

..according to my "Best Wreck" maintainer, it pretty hard to get an individual solenoid these days.

He reckons 'Repco' and 'Strathfield Car Radios' have a big range of kits, but they only sell the solenoids in 4s.

I,ve had 2 door solenoids on my GQ with factory central locking fail ,
genuine parts price were outragous I found the aftermarket solenoids work but you have to disable the inside button because the extra drag on the actuator was a bit to much after a while . they are very cheap and work well . can,t think of the brand but it was made by a known brand of imobiliser kit
maybe pirana !!

Thanks for that. When you say "disable the inside button" I assume you mean the one that locks down all the door locks except the driver door?

I have had the door apart, and found an after market replacement fitted.I removed and tested it , ok. As I was replacing the unit I noticed a very poorly connected wire, I replaced the plugs and tested and is now working.Im assuming I have fixed it but I will wait and see.Time will tell. Now to go through and fix the others that just dont quite open 100%.Dead easy job BTW.
