There's a wonderful FREE iPhone app that I put on my partner's phone called 'AroundMe'. We use it all the time because it works so simply, yet
well. Prefer it to GPS.
What it does is present a list of
services: petrol stations, doctors, coffee shops,
parking stations etc. When you click on a category it uses Google to locate those
services closest to you in distance order.
Click on a particular service and it shows address, description and phone number. Click on the phone number and it dials it. Click on "Location" to see where it is on a map. Click on "Directions" to show the route on a map with turn by turn instructions. Simple, effective, Brilliant.

Can do that with most GPS's as
well.
Does it show them all at once or 1 category at a time.
Probably uses GPS to locate them anyway.

Hi Graham
"Can do that with most GPS's as

Really ? Can your GPS ring the motel or servo 'up ahead ?
Mine Can't.
But ..as pointed out below by Rossc0, 'AroundMe' application only works where there is phone coverage.

I don't have an Iphone but a mate had this carpenter tool & I thought hmmmm that would be pretty handy for getting the trailer or fourby with rooftop tent level

Works a treat once calibrated.

"...others are pretty average.."
I agree totally, ..most are a waste of time.
It has a Bank ATM finder which we've used, ..but it only seems to work with Commonwealth Bank sites.

Some of you blokes are hard to impress.
I reckon the iPhone is the greatest gadget of all time. The number of different apps available is phenomenal. Not all of them are essential for life, but hey, for a $1.19 you can play around with a new app that can vary from dull and boring calendar/scheduling to photographic to audio/music/video.
I have 71 apps loaded. Some are crap, but who cares. Some are brilliant- like Shazam which listens to a slice of music and then identifies it. Or iHud which sits on the dash board and reflects speed etc onto your windscreen. Google Earth, Skype, radio tuners, satellite trackers... The variety is endless.
Not only that , you can ring people up.
A billion app downloads achieved this week!

places that sometimes the GPS doesn't. Love my iPhone!
