Well this weekend was supposed to be a big relax and sit around a fire. It started well, a ramble up the road, and caught up with member onespark and his family and a mate in a troopie from his work, and we had Vaughan and the McG Crew tagging along.

Well towards the middle of the afternoon we headed for Old King Tree track as Vaughan wanted to test the LR Defender Xtreme out and impress his 4 passengers with his driving prowess.

I tried the track first, it had been raining and was getting quite dark. Got up past the ricky outcrop only to be stopped by slushy mud in the ruts, hmmm a sliding stall start descent is NEVER MUCH FUN, especially when you cant see where you are backing. Got almost to the bottom and as I drove forward to straighten the vehicle it seemed to want to have a go up the track so I assisted and up we went, although even at the top after all the slipperiness it was still hard going. Oh well, we made it anyways and took the chicken track back to the bottom.

Vaughan had a go just as the heavens opened, slipped and slid and then bogged down just before the rocky ledge. As we watched his second attempt the rain intensified and wow did it pour, he got past the hard ricky bit and then halted. Not a fun time to leant a stall start technique but ever an expert instructor I talked him down over the UHF (tongue in cheek that) As we were watchign him the track was awash and we actually saw the "head" of the water start to run down the track, quite a privilege to see such a sight.

Anyone who knows the track will appreciate the youtube file below. It was sure damp. I shant mention the towing to get the LR home, but it was a great day and all enjoyed themselves.

Take a look

Bonz thoughtfully, that was a previously uploaded video that wouldn't do anything for me. I got 0.00/0.00 of video.

LR in it's natural environment eh?

Darkie is keen on trying that track again this year, hopefully he will make it to the top this time and not have to use the chook track hahaha

Cheers Kev

Hi Bonz

Good shots.
Great track to play on that. Wow and didn't the conditions change throughout the day , had our own lucky escape to , good to see all got through with no extra dents, and I bet the fire was truly appreciated.
