Via Adelaide is the shortest. However if there is heavy traffic when you pass through adelaide it may not be the fastest. Use a travel planner or Google Maps to check out your options.

We go Mildura - Renmark - Burra - Peterborough - Orroroo- Hawker - Leigh Creek.

Most ppl we know heading up that way, take that route too.

Another good route to Birdsville(though 4WD required) is Broken Hill -Tibooburra - Innamincka - Walkers Crossing

If you are looking for a free camp area in Renmark, highly recommend Plushes Bend for a quick overnight stop.

Cheers and happy travels

Vote 2 for that route.
Only issue is they take your fruit & veg off you near the border (Quarentine) so wait till you get to Renmark or Berri before stocking up.

Yeah, that's bugger isn't it Craig .....learnt that the hard way some years ago.

And we can never remember what you are, and aren't allowed to take across, so we take nothing and shop in Renmark.

Cheers T & A

I disagree Craig,
You are going too far north
Ouyen, Pinnaroo, Loxton, Waikerie is definitely shorter and quicker.
Try it next time. Going thru Pattchewollock is a bit shorter even still.

Not sure if it's shorter Ian as after a quick tally of each distance it appears going via Mildura was still slightly less even than the Pattchewollock short cut but suspect it may well be quicker avoiding the traffic & 60kph sections of Renmark & Mildura.
I come from North East Vic & usually run up the Murray Valley Highway but for this years desert run I have a Melbourne passenger so might head accross as per your suggestion via Pinnaroo for something different.
Cheers Craig..........

G'day Crackles, thanks for your thoughts, you answered a question about suspension on a 100 series cruiser for me last year, and recomended Autocraft in Geelong. I have my cruiser booked in to have a lift kit installed this week with Darren... Thanks again, Bob.

Gaday Bob. Coincidently I was at Autocraft last weekend myself having had a turbo fitted along with a pre-desert trip inspection. The old 1HZ should fly over the dunes this year :-)

Craig,
you have given me good High Country advice in the past. If my advice helps you in return, i am happy about it. I am going to wander around the desert in W.A this winter. What is your desert run?

Are fortunate to be part of a group that has rare permits to travel north from Nullabor through the Great Vic Desert up the Mt Davies Rd to Pit Lands; Svy-Gen Cnr, Blackstone Country & Warakurna area visiting many of the local communities. Looking forward to getting away.
Cheers Craig.........

Gday Craig,

You definately have the best run set out with one slight detour.

After you leave Ouyen, just before Red cliffs, turn left to Werrimull then right up to Cullulleraine, do shopping as you say in Berri and even drop in and have a coffee with us then onto Morgan and Williem Country next. LOL

Bye passes all the slow stuff from Red Cliffs to mildura airport and is much better road that the Pinnaroo to Loxton and the Loxton to Moorook road.

Us YOKELS learn these things LOL

Cheers

Hope my 2 cents worth helps also Bob
