Hi everyone,
Sorry to be a pain but im a little cofused. I took up Garmins 30 day free trial of speed cameras etc, (I havent used it yet) The site mentions that for $40 a year ,you get speed cameras, school zones and overspeed from memory. Just looking at Doug T's site, noticed you can download for free. Is there any differance between the free and the paid version? Also the site mentions that with Nuvi models , the POI loader is not necessary but where do the POi files go, to the Garmin drive or SD card? The site says to unzip and double click and the files will be installed on the GPS Unit.
Thanks in anticipation. Michael.

Are you sure your not looking at the USA site, I just went and had a look at the Garmin Austr' site and POI's are free,
Garmin POI's

You can load them to either the card or the unit memory, if you have cleaned out the unwanted files like I have there will be plenty of room on the memory,

Thanks Doug, you may be correct, it may have been. I did end up with another symbol called "proximity points" in the settings area of the unit.. I havent got that far with the unwanted files yet.. I should have paid more attention to your site.. LOL!! I'm still wading through the whole concept.. I will delete (carefully ) the download and load the aussie ones.. Thanks doug.. Michael

I getmine from the place I bought the Garmin.

I have a Nuvi 310...and my POI file goes onto the Garmin itself and I have given them to other people and they load them via the USB cable...very easy and free !!

I did try and upload them to another mates Garmin...forgot which model...and it wouldn't work, but I can do for most

If you go to this website and register, you can then download POI's with the matching MP3's for voice warning .

Michael,

You might want to visit Garmin and download the free POI loader POI Loader
This will allow you to also set the proximity alarm/sound to speed or distance, very handy. The POI loader will remove old POI, if you wish and convert CSV files (like excel files) to GPI files.

File for Garmin come in 3 formats GPX - GPI and CSV
GPX are the smallest - GPI the next and CSV large.

Hope this helps

Just another little hint, copy all the unit files to a folder on your PC before you do any mod's, then if you accidently delete something you always have a backup.

I recently bought a Nuvi 760 and found that to get the voice prompts for the 'safety cameras' Garmin Aus had to be contacted.

They emailed them free.

I also signed up with the gps data team and bought the sub to get the mobile speed camera file. That's just a chime and an on-screen warning.
