Hi,
Has anyone had experience in using one of those single axle dolly type car trailers where you run the front wheels of the towed vehicle up onto a single axle platform. This then has an A frame to the towing vehicle . Advantage is that you don't need to store a big trailer and only about half the weight of the breakdown is being "carried"
Does anyone know anything about building one of these?
Tks

Yes I thought about this same concept as an alternative to a full size trailer to transport a 4WD behind a motorhome. But when I thought about it a bit more I figured I already had a single axle dolly to support the pointy end. It's called a front axle. Just attach an "A" frame to front and away we go without the need for any extra trailer of any type. Make sure it is an approved type so that it meets all transport department regulations.

Cheers Pop

Tks Pop,
Already have an A frame but I dont think it would get over the line as an approved type. Additionally there are requirements in NSW that the vehicle being"towed" with one must have a 'linked' braking system etc etc. Then there's the difficulty of attaching it to different vehicles esp if yhey don't have a big steel bumper.
The dolly gets round all these difficulties and is easy to store/park.
There's one in the Trading Post but the dreamer wants $2500 and they don't look that difficult to build. I'd like to hear from someone who has bulit one or has one.

It's not really as simple as just adding an 'A' frame and off you go. There are different requirements in different States. Check this LINK for additional info.

The Guy in Para Hills West used to make them, he doesn't anymore , and the last 3 or 4 were made by Modern Trailers in Lonsdale SA

Tks Kenny,
Will ring them and see if they do them but I'm in NSW and very reluctant to buy anything that needs registering interstate because as you can see from someone's caravan post recently, you bring it back and the RTA clowns here will find some problem. Despite your having supposedly being given all the info on the web there's usually some miniscule fault that they latch on to.
