With the outback touring season starting or for some already started, the supply of PLBs (Personal Locating Beacons or also known as EPIRB) is in most cases 4weeks and some outlets have quoted 4 months.

As most would know the older version of the EPIRB is no longer recommended for use and the new PLBs with or with out GPS function are the way to go.

PLB link.

At the Rosehill 4WD show last week I asked at TJM and ARB stand as well as the GPSOZ and they all told me the same thing.

If you are planning to purchase one it might pay to put your name on the waiting list.

This information is from Sydney suppliers, but from what I have been told this supply issue might be Australia wide.

If you need one asap I have just put mine on ebay. It is a 410G. Has the gps built in. Only got it a month ago but now a victim of the financial crisis, goodies must go. It is currently at $640 with a day to go. Paid around $780.00 for it.

Ordered a 410G online a couple of months back from a site recommended on here, took about 4 weeks to arrive (was aware of that before ordering) and was considerably less than your current auction price on ebay ;-))

Have you checked this mob out http://www.kti.com.au/epirbs.htm, their PLB's are still being evaluated but their EPIRB's appear to be avaliable.

Rod,

I do have one on the way, this post was more of a warning about the availability of PLBs.

For those interested,
ryda.com.au have them in stock, $695.
They have gone up a bit in the last few months though, as I purchased one 3 months ago from them for $575, one must wonder why such an increase.
I found Ryda to be good to deal with and took 2 days to arrive.
