Hi all, was just wondering does anyone have figures on fuel consumption for an 02 prado turbo diesel auto Grande, round town, freeway, towing etc. I have taken the last two weeks consumpton figures. Last week 120k stop start very local stuff, then one trip to Concord 83k from Penrith via M4 (total 203k), this week same local stuff and only one trip to seven hills, first week was around 11L per 100 this week 13.6. Does this seem around the average mark for these vehicles I have been told anywhere between 9L and 12, 15 for towing ?? Only had the vehicle two weeks. Only extra I have put on so far were A/T Bf's earlier this week. NO bullbar, snorkel etc yet........... I use to average around the 10's in the old 2.8 lux........... WHG

Hi Whg,
Must have missed your post when you got your new truck. Did you sell the 97 or trade it in?
Thats heaps better then sals guzzler, though she did get 515 ks out of the last tank. That was arround town and a 300 k trip. We are taking the nullarbor and the boat up to Lake St clair for the weekend so I will be broke by the time I get back lol. My old girl got 13.6 towing my boat full of camping gear, but averaging arround 90 to 95. Sorry mate for the rave, this is not answering your question.
Cheers Pete

Hi Pete, sorry mate have been busy for the last few days haven't had time to respond. Yeah sold the old one privately, bought the new one private as well. Got $16,500 for the old one thats what I paid for it 2 and a bit years ago, out of pocket about $1000 over the two years including the suspension (needed about 800/1000 spending on it, rear main leak, warped front discs) Would have liked to have taken the OME out the old one but couldnt find another prado at the time (wrecked or whatever) to stick back in it so sold it with it, left the cargo barrier in the old one as I want a half one for this one so I can fold the the split fold rear seat and use it for longer items if need be, was a bit of a pain the full barrier at times as the old prado didnt have the split fold rear seat and have baby seat in as well. Left the bullbar on the old one as well but I scored a bargain with that when I bought it anyway, bought a second set of wheels for the old one then decided stuff it I couldnt be bothered changing over from road tyres to muddies all the time so went midway and got the A/T's fitted to the alloys and resold the steel rims again and made $350 out of them, the bar only cost me $425 hence why bull bar cost me buggar all, bloke had no idea, was an ARB sahara bar on the old one that I picked up off ebay. The new to me prado is an 01 model TD auto grande with 78k on it got it for 24k one owner, so far very pleased with it. Now the list starts again LOL. I pulled the UHF,driving lights and stuff off the old one so at least dont have to buy them again, (lucky said the other half)...... WHG

Hi Whg,
That TD sounds like a good buy, especially for a low k o1. They are not as sensitive to dirty fuel as the newer ones either. Congralutions.

Cheers Pete, hope I dont have the issuse like in todays post about the T/D prado.. Yeah I wouldnt like to be replacing injectors on these D4D prados/hilux's. Believe there a throw away item and cost around $1200 per injector (ouch) like anything/brands but eh, they all have there little issues or some have some major well known ones............Will have to try and get up your way some time and meet up for a drink at your local.........WHG

Sounds good. The Dudley accross the road does a great lunch. We have had no issues with any of the work hiluxs or Prados, and I have lost count how many we have lol. Most are out on long term leases. But dirty fuel out of a drum in the outback would be a worry.
When we where thinking of replacing Sals Paj every low k td Prado was gone before we could organise time to look at it.
Cheers Pete

Thanks for those figures Stormynight appreciated. Still fairly good figures for what you have described. Will be giving it a try out on the beack in a few weeks time so will compare it to the old V6 prado we had. Not sure how traction control will go with it on the sand ?? will find out I suppose.............. WHG

The official govt figure for that vehicle was about 12.5 l/100k.
I've not seen better than 11 l/100k out of any 1KZ-TE prado, especially after you add some weight, snorkel, tyres and accessories. My manual Prado TD used to get no better than 12.5 l/100k cruising at 100 on the highway.

Hi WHG, I'm getting an average 9.5 K's to the Lt from my 02 3Ltr prado, but that can go as low as 7.0 with a lot of town driving, towing a 1.5 tonne van takes 14 Lt per 100 K's which is excellent no complaints there, all round thier good value,
regards,
Dave

I've got a manual 01 prado turbo diesel, bullbar, Cooper STs. I've tracked my fuel comsumption since I bought it, done 80,000 kms now.

Average 11.3 l \100l
sometimes down to 10.8
up to 12.5 depending on terrain, city/country etc

I don't tow anything but it's quite heavily loaded on trips. Fuel consumption has improved since I bought it (now 130k) but that may be due to learning where it drinks fuel. It's thirsty in headwinds but pushing along at 110 kph or when I hammer it in traffic really sucks the fuel. Best economy is around 97 kph, take it easy through the gears etc. I'm very happy with it, no problems at all. Hope this helps.

Peter
