Nah! Even at 5psi it would only make about 5 metres up the dune :-)
Life's good and looking forward to a tropical sojourn in the
Great Sandy Desert from next month

We reccon we have sand dunes in this country, until you see them in Africa.
I spent some time in Libya, 1000km south of the Med. and there are some stunners in that area.
The biggest tho (according to the Libians) are in Chad, but I've not been there.
Have a great trip Willem, and stay safe.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Peter
Hope you are travelling
well.
This dune is said to be 360 metres in height. Impossible to climb on the drop side. There were also some great dunes in South America shown during the Dakar Rally on TV this year. Don't think that my current blunderbus would make it there....lol

Hi Willem it reminds me of a photo of a Suzuki against a monster dune that was in a 4WD magazine many years ago. Was that yours in the same place? Cheers Graham.

Hi Willem
Only yesterday a gy at work here (South African named Willem)
was showing me photos of a recent tag along tour in this same area, very fascinating especially the Skeleton Coast. the dunes they were traversing were upto 215 metres high. He was saying the whole area is now restricted with exception of one tour operator.

Yes te Skeleton Coast is a probhibited area because of the diamonds just laying around n the beach (
well, that is stretching the truth a bit...lol). Access to Sossusvlei is still there, but I have read that the price to visit is exorbitant.

Willem,
I was at Sossusvlei last September and prices were fine - a few dollars to enter the park. At sunset it was absolutely stunning. We are shipping our troopie from here (Ghana) to Namibia at the end of this month and plan to explore Namibia and other Southern African countries properly. Amazing place.

According to GO Magazine January 2009 you have to
camp at Sesriem and in South African money it is R300 (abt AUD $46) per day for a
campsite and R150 (abt AUD$23) per person per day. A bag of ice costs R30 and a bundle of wood costs the same. Entrance to the park is R60 pp. Diesel was R11 per litre( abt AUD $1.70). The mags writers were complaining about the cost.
When we were there in 1984 it cost $0. The right place at the right time :-)
Cheers
