Hi everyone
First time user and wondering if anyone can give me any info on driving from Tarcoola north to Manguri Siding along the railway line. If at all possible do we need permits or permission from land owners. Thank you Kay

Hi Kay
When you enter the Woomera Prohibited Area, you will need permission from the Range Officer, Wally Broome, as well as the relevant stations that you will be passing through. Most of the tracks through that area are very interesting and in good condition.

I believe the track you speak of is the railway maintenance road & is not open to the public with signs just out of Tarcoola warning not to proceed any further. Having said that the locals at the pub say they travel that way to Coober Pedy as long as there's been no rain. Unfortunately I doubt a permit would be available unless you have business along the route.

Hi Craig

having done it form east and west, as far as may 2008 there are no signs, no warnings what so ever.

I'm not say you (anyone) can not it and that it's open, just that there are no signs or warnings. as of May 2008

Cheers

Richard

PS. the SA road would be the main road into Maralinga, It's a good Road/track you could do it in a 2WD higher clearance Ute.

Richard if you travelled east/west (Transcontinenal railway) I think we may be talking about 2 different tracks? Kay was enquiring about the track north of Tarcoola to Coober Pedy (Manguri Siding). A call to a local police station would confirm latest track status.
Cheers Craig...............
