We are in Rubyvale at the moment and looking to head toward the coast before a week in Airlie.

I'm looking for freebee to kill a week in doing some school work.

What's it like? All Camps 4 tells me is that there are showers a toilets there.

Haven't stayed there but have stopped quite a few times for a cuppa. Ammenities are good with toilets and showers.

Have attached a photo that was taken in very dry times, lake bone dry, it will be full now.

Hi Joff1,

We'll be travelling through to Qld in July and plan to spend a little time in the Emerald/Rubyvale area, and wonder where you might have camped at Rubyvale. We'll have our dog with us for this part of the trip, any suggestions welcome.
Thanks,
Rob.

Hi Rob, we are in The Blue Gem Van Park at the moment. Pets are allowed. It's a nice enough place if a bit noisy. it's behind the little donga that serves as a post office and accross the road from the pub.

It's $20 per night for a powered site plus $5 per normal kid. Not sure if they charge for furry kids.

Joff.
If you are into free camping there are plenty of locations around the area. (Well, certainly used to be!)
For several years we camped at "washpool" chasing the elusive sapphires. If the creek is dry, about 100m. up from the crossing there is a spring whiech yields good fresh water.
Graves Hill is another good location for camping, and sapphires can be "specked" from the surface.
Also used to be a good weekend "flea" market at Sapphire and the big Gemfest, Anakie in August.
