Hi all, My Cuz and I are heading off for our
Kimberley trip in July along with another couple who are leaving earlier and doing the CSR. We are coming
home from 80 Mile beach in WA along the Kidson track. Has anyone done this trip? I am just after some info about how good or bad it was etc. We will all have Ultimates in tow so if you see 3 of them travelling throughout the Kimberleys in August come and say Hi.
Cheers,
Glenn n Jude

Hi Glenn N Jude
You will have no problems with it, we did it in 2005 two day trip eighty mile to
well 33.
camped at first
Wind mill south. we had the Troopy and a CT which was made in 1982 (it broke) :-((.
There are some over grown sections some burnout sections and some washouts, but it would not be a 4WD without them.
We now wish we took more time to do it, (next time)
You will enjoy it
Cheers
Richard

Hi Yes we did the trip in 2006 and loved it! We were on our own in our Landcruiser towing an off road CT. You need to keep a very close eye out for washouts and take it steady - we stayed mainly in 2nd and 3rd gear. There are lots and lots of Holly Grevillia along and over the road and many glorious
views of other
wildflowers. We camped 2 nights, both times near small rocky hills - there are plenty of
places to
camp. We didn't see another car for three days although we did hear a couple early on - think they were on the Calllawa Track. It was far quieter than the CSR - a bit wonderful and very peaceful.
We will be back on the CSR this July but, sadly, not turning off to the Kidson.
All the best.
Megan

Check out thread 65254 Glenn n Jude. There were a number of threads around January this year with discussion about this track.

Yeah, its a nice run. Camped a couple of nights along the way from the
Kunawarritji turn off.
Razor Blade Bore has a
good camp site with potable water.
You will scratch your vehicle so just take it easy

Thanks for the photo compliment, Willem. If you see the same photo on a spare wheel cover, it's us! Looks good - brand new - not sure how it will look by September....

To avoid, or at least minimise scratching your new vehicle, try either Autoskin or ScratchPro Duco protector - both very effective and inexpensive.

Hi Peter and Jan,
Well fancy that, another 3 couples with 3 ulti's. You wouldn't read about it. Don't you love them. I see you have # 10, we have # 210. Wer'e leaving on the 18th and will be coming down the Kidson around the last week of August. We're going for 6 weeks and can't wait. It will be our first big trip with the Ulti and the first time to the Kimberleys.
Wer'e from Carrum Downs and the other 2 couples are from Geelong. There will be 2 cruisers and I, have like you have a 4.2 TD GU only a fair bit older.
I see you have the air vents to keep the dust away, do they work
well? The dust is certainly a pain in the you know what.
We will be meeting our third partry at
Halls Creek around the 23rd after they finish the CSR. Another one of our must do's. Anyway, have a great trip and you never know, we may cross paths. Imagine 6 ulti's in a row, it would be a sight.
Cheers,
Glenn n Jude

A 6 Ultimate photo shoot - great!
Our friends are from
Canberra and
Brisbane so we mee them in
Alice Springs and Turkey Creek. We plan to leave
Melbourne (we're in
Upwey) 13th July and get
home at the end of August - 7 weeks.
We spent 12 weeks last year in the Simpson/
Hay River and then across the
Gary Junction Rd to the CSR,
Rudall River and the
Pilbara.
Can't wait to get back.
The dust busters are really good. They keep the rear step free of dust.
If any of your group have an
HF radio - listen out for me on VKS - mobile 1906.
Are you guys on the Ultimate
forum? If you are,
check out the repair to my drawbar.
Cheers
Peter

Glenn and Jude,
there is a few days reading in the archives here. Just enter Kidson Wapet in the search box.
