Joined this forum about 6 months ago or more because I needed some info for the impending trip around OZ..

I have had heaps of useful info and sometimes too much to absorb. THANKS to all.

We're off in 4 weeks time and it all seems a bit scarey now! getting excited I suppose.

Money wasn't endless unfortunately but we decked out the patrol with what we thought was essential without going over board......Bull bar, spotties, UHF, poly airs, Engel, roof rack and will be whacking a set of Cooper A/T's on in a few weeks.
PHEW! I don't want to look at the credit card and we have'nt even left yet!

We'll be doing SA Vic Tas NSW and Qld (T'ville for xmas) then home by end of Jan 04.

Make sure you have your Explore OZ stickers on your rigs so I will know to HONK.

While your there...does anyone know what's like trying to get a Van pozzy in c/van park in SA over the coming school holidays???? We kick off as soon as Hol's start so a bit concerned about getting into a park. I don't want to book because I want to be free to be where I want when I want...

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

If you need somewhere to stay in Melbourne, let us know. If I can't help you out, I don't see why others on the site can't.Just Do It!

Thanks for the offer Glenn.

Bonz also mentioned dropping by his way a while back too. I have organised one of the Explore OZ Itineraries for the first four weeks which takes in a short stay in SA then onto Vic. I have to be on the boat to Tassie on Oct 16.

I haven't got the itinerary yet but what I'll do is drop into an internet cafe if I have troubles or questions and look to this forum for help from the locals.

One thing you may able to help me with is where to find a good mechanic for the Diesel Patrol. I'll be due for a service around the time I get to Melbourne and would rather avoid the dealerships high prices if possible.

cheers

No worries Bonz

Might be the excuse your looking for to get down to the coast??? or whatever.

Tell me Bonz, is it worth the inland trek to Terang or should I spend my time coastal???

stay coastal, Timboon is well worth a look and only a little way inland, if you give me a call nearer the time you're heree I might be able to slip down and show you about a bit along the ocean road.

sorry Andrew I cant help with Van accomadation availability but i suspect it shouldnt be too bad due to weather ie cold.
Try making contact with a few to see what bookings are like at the present...maybe that will give you an idea eg heavily booked-to-date could suggest they may not have vacancires when you arrive?
Have a safe and enjoyable tripWow! am I cute

Hi Andrew,

The Peterborough Caravan park is pretty good with lots of sites and there would be no need to book. Peterborough is very central to Adelaide, York Peninsula and the Flinders Ranges. If you get stuck for a van site we have a big yard.

You are welcome to call in here if you are passing this way. We will be home from 15 September to 10 October. My email address is willem@kempen.id.au
Cheers,
WillieNever a dull moment

Andrew, Just checked with our local Car/Pk in Berri SA and you don't need to book in there either. Berri is about a 4 hr drive from Peterborough right on the River Murray. Weather should be pretty good at that time of year but nights can get cold
Have a good trip

Andrew,

you should not have too much trouble getting sites in SA. Most areas should be fine and if one park is booked then the next town should have something. the busiest places at that time would be in the Flinders and perhaps the riverland but apart from that should be OK. If you stay in Adelaide let me know, I would like to catch up and have a drink or coffee whatever.

If you nneed work done before Adelaide see Fitzy at Pt Augusta 4wd Centre or let me know and I will point bnyou in the right direction in Adelaide.

Happy Holiday'sWe have so little time to enjoy our land

G'day All
I've been a "visitor" to the site for some time - but couldn't help commenting on what a great bunch of people the members on EO are. Everyone offering Andrew help and places to stay if stuck - what a brilliant display of "Aussie" mateship!! Made me proud to be an Aussie!!!

Time to pull the finger out and become a member!!!

Good on ya everyone - and have a great trip Andrew. If you pass through the ACT feel free to drop by.
