I can't say that I've heard of anyone doing this before, but there are more things in
heaven and earth etc.

Makes me wonder if that much water around central Oz will have a small change on the climate for a few years? Will it create more cloud for other areas of Oz, such as western NSW and Qld, with fronts coming through west to east?
