G'day Everyone,

We are currently planing a trip from Melbourne to WA with the intention of going from Alice Springs to 80 Mile Beach via
Gary Junction Road and Wapet Road.

I would be interested in hearing from members that may have travelled this area. Road conditions if known, time to complete and points of interest etc.

Your input is very much appreciated.

Its a great trip. Plenty of info available. If you type "kidson wapet" in the search box all will be revealed. It'll take you all night to read the mountain of trip reports photos etc listed thereunder.

Hi Beemer

We plan to go through to NT via the Gary Junction this winter, but not the Kidson (which is not suitable for our caravan). We will go east fro Marble Bar. As Bob says, do a search, as this has been recently discussed.

We'll be on the Kidson/Telfer section to Marble Bar middle August and then on the Gary Junction back to Alice mid - late September. Have travelled it in 2006 and ..... like Willem said...the usual corrugations, sand, rocky sections but overall good going.

Motherhen when will you be out there? Maybe we'll cross paths?

Hi Viv

I would love to meet you on the tracks, but our time frames will be different. We should have left home already, but with no rain, feeding the sheep is constant and expensive. When we get away, we plan to spend a little time with son, d.i.l. and baby in the Pilbara before heading east. Time frame totally unknown at this stage, but we should end up in Adeaide early September for show and ram sale.

We donethat trip a few years back as a short cut to the Kimberley, great drive. We were pressed for time and wanted to get onto the GRR ASAP.From Alice Springs to Sandfire RH we had stays at Glen Helen Gorge, just north of Kintore, Jupiter Well and Razor Blade Well. All tracks were in great condition bar a few sections on the Kidson.
