Not sure what you need to know. From
Birdsville you have to travel via the
Lake Machattie Bypass because it is flooded at the Cuttaburra. Depending on the type of vehicle you may need to go into
Bedourie and re-fuel, then back out to the No. 3
bore and up the good dirt road via Coorabulka and Springvale and into
Diamantina Lakes. There is a
camp spot at Gum Hole but it isn't as nice as camping at Hunter's
Gorge (my personal opinion). There is a nice drive at the Lakes which is about 75 klms (this needs to be taken into account for your fuel supply). Not sure what you intend doing there - we go for the fishing and hiking up and around
the gorge. Also not sure of the state of the road up to
Winton - could be rough - with all the flooding that's been up there maybe not all tracks have had anything donw with them. Normally reasonable dirt roads.
Contact National Parks in
Longreach for more up to date information, closer to the time.
Enjoy the Lakes - stay more than one night - there's heaps to see and a boat or canoe or kayak is a good idea!
