I know some rigs have a problem with you not being able to open the back door as the whole Pajero door swings to the side.

Anyone have this problem?
Can it be resolved with a longer drawbar?
Does it depend on what type of camper/caravan (we're currently looking at the larger CUB offroad campers + the Jayco Outback "camper trailers".

Thanks (newbie).

It can be resolved by buying the adapter plate to raise the tyre on the door

Or if its the door that hits get a dropdown tongue.

Had this problem with prado/jayco camper, main problem with door hitting gas bottle.Fixed this by removing 9kg bottle and fitting 2 x4kg bottles,1 on each side of drawbar rails further back closer to camper front panel and fitted a small tool box between these bottles as a bonus, problem solved with fully opening door.
Also problem can be solved by parking with the camper at an angle away to the right of the vehicle, this is what i did untill i did the mod to the camper.
thanks

We have an NM to tow a Jayco OB pop top and find the door opens over everything when coupled to travel!
Care is needed when the handbrake lever is raised, or the jockey wheel is fitted, but I can still reach through the partially opened door to access most of the load area.
IMHO it would be nicer to have barn doors but I consider it a minor trade off to have the Pajero!

Hello Ozwrangler ,

Had the same problem with my Cub camper trailer had to cut the top of the hand brake lever and move the battery box so could access fridge and draws. Also moved the jockey wheel to right hand side of draw bar. Before I did all this I just had to park on a angle to leave enough room to get to the fridge.

The Paydo is the same, maybe a lift up door might be the go like the new Holden sports wagon.

Cheers Scoof. :-)

I have this problem with my camper. I can open the door to the first stop only. If I want to open it fully I have to jackknife the camper. Not a big issue with a camper but could be a real pain with a caravan.

Did buy a long draw bar CT, one reason was back door opening.

Have had almost the same problem with the NJ pajero and the CT.

Wanted a stone guard fitting, and fitted it myself.
Standard position by the manufacturer limited door opening, fitted it myself back a little, as close as I could to the spare tyre, and can get the back door 80% open.

Did check the tongue and mounting when I got the CT to ensure the door opened over the draw bar and tregg coupling, in case I needed to get a different tongue for the tow bar to lower it a little.

A bit of checking and talking to the manufacturer may help to stop any major problems eventuating.
