My previous long-range tank was a nuisance. First it developed a leak. Then the fuel pump had trouble to get the stuff to the motor. After much frustration it was discovered that a filter inside the tank was clogged. And not long after cleaning it did the same again.
Question: are there better tanks - with a good reputation and known for quality?

It sounds like it is not a tank problem, more a poor fuel quality issue. Remove the filter from the tank and replace it with an external one where you can see it &
check with ease. I have a basic alloy tank to which I have added an electric pump to transfer fuel to the main tank and an external filter. I have had it block a couple of times and I can see when it is a problem take it off and clean it out.
You did not say what brand your tank was etc - not much info to go on. Cheers Tony

Thanks Tony,
my tank was custom-built. I had the suspicion that the blockage was caused by internal corrosion.
Being often in the middle of nowhere draining the tank is no real option. On top of that - I am technically rather helpless. To rely on a known good brand would ease my headaches.

Lucky
John - and please tell me where did you get 'age is nothing; waking up is everything '?
Is it your own wisdom? If so, I would like to add it to the Quotations section on my website.

G'day Klaus
It is original, but that's not to say that somewhere in the recesses of my brain there's a trace from something similar from someone far more erudite. Still, I'm happy to be quoted. I doubt that it will attract any plagiarism accusations.
I haven't even bothered to put it on my own website - thanks for the thought and good luck with the fuel tank
Cheers
John

Hi
John, I know all about those recesses.
Mine are full of goodies, like 'When I grow up I want to be a little boy'. Often wondered if such pearl actually could have grown on my own manure. Now I found out it's Joseph Heller's. Must have read it before my brain wandered off.
Shall list your quote under 'Anonymous' - unless you tell me what follows after
John's "G"...

Klaus
Fitted a Brown-Davis long range tank in the Patrol.
Saved $300 by fitting it myself, ( it's easy )
Never had an isue.
Hope I still can say that after our trip thru the Canning, and the
Kimberley's. That should
test it.
Cheers
Bucky

Hi Bucky, wish you a fine trip and a healthy tank. Obviously, you are technically very clever. I am NOT.

G'day Klaus, I have a 170ltr "Out of Town" brand that ARB sell. I'm the second owner, the first running it in a petrol cruiser now me in a diesel.
I have had no issues with it, bloody heavy though LOL.

Thanks Joff1 - have heard 'Out Of Town' mentioned several times. They must be good and I shall go there for my next tank (and yes, they are heavy - especially when full!).
