suspension question

hi all.
well it has been about 8 months with the EFS 2 inch lift kit in the patrol. i have the performance pack (20% firmer than standard).
with nothing in the patrol (unloaded), it gives a firm ride, and with a few corrugations and speed bumps, it is shocking (pardon the pun).

The whole 4wd seems to jump up and down, especially the front end, to the point i would say the engine is trying to jump out of the engine bay.

loaded, the patrol rides a lot better. well, the rear end likes it better. but the front still gets the same response.

i am putting it down to 'close to standard weight' in the front (I have a alloy bull bar, spotties and dual battery).

the intention for the suspension upgrade was to get the 20% firmer to cater for a steel bull bar and winch on the front.

i know it will be a 'suck it and see' kind of approach, but i was wondering if anyone has experienced the harsh firm ride in the front and regained some comfort once the winch and bull bar was in place?

sorry for the long winded question, but i hope it would pay off in setting the scene.

I can guarantee you will get a MUCH better ride. When you load it up, you will find your front end will drop a bit under the weight but it takes all the hard bumps out of it. It will be much like your rear end when you put a load in it.

My hilux after having the suspension done in the rear was absolutely horrific. Then a couple of days later I had a bobcat scoop some landscape mix into it for me, sunk it down about an inch and a half, then it drove like a limo. The handbrake asked if we could drive with a scoop in it all the time so now I carry a small load.

I had the same difference a day after I had the front done and put on the winch and steel bar.

For an experiment, try putting a 100kg person on your bullbar and then drive at about 50km/hr over some speed bumps and then do 110km/hr down the freeway. You will notice a massive difference.

BTW, that was a joke for all serious people out there. Don't try at home.

thanks SR509,

i was hoping an answer like that would come back.

i was getting excited at the notion of getting the father in law to sit on the bull bar while i drove around the bush. i guess there is always a next time...:)

Hi John, I want to sit in the front passengers seat when this happens, I would also like to see how well Gregs brakes work from 110k to a quick stop LOL. Regards Steve
