Telstra have the best coverage i think put it seems such a ripoff according to there site . $30 credit and you should be able to
Quote
•do 15 Google searches,
•check your email 11 times and
•visit Myspace 8 times.
WTH and the usb modem is $149 and the credit expires in 30 days .

troopyman, the credit only expires if you do not recharge before it expires.

I find it strange that people complain about it being a ripoff when it has coverage that others do not. It seems people want the coverage of NextG AND the price of the really cheap ones (with limited coverage compared to NextG).

Those example surfing stats are weird....i would think that is per day! $30 will give you an effective amount of 7.5mb per day, quite generous if only looking at the net and not downloading the latest game and/or linux distro :-)

Hope that helps

ok I have been curious at wanting to get a telstra next G prepaid wireless broadband.
Now if I buy $100 worth of prepaid credit, which gives me 5 or 6GB (can't remember), why are and how are you charged per megabyte used if it is prepaid?

the $20 recharge will set the rate at 13.3c per MB, with an effective data amount of 150MB.

If you have unused credit and recharge within the month then the charge will be at the newer rate, in this case 13.3c per MB. Prepaid is charged at per MB, up to your account credit.....it should not be considered as a 5 GIG credit etc as it needs to take into account unused credit amounts. In my case, i have about $145 of credit and have the rate at 13.3c at the moment, though will add $60-80 if needed for particular needs to knock the rate right down.

sorry, yes it is too early in the week for some of us :-)

I forgot that you didn't have it yet, as it took me about the first month to work out how it all works.

I suggest talking to someone (in person) who has prepaid WBB and find out how it all works.....it is rather confusing when trying to explain in writing :-)

Have a good day :-)

Be very careful before you buy one of these.

I am having big fights with Telstra at the moment because the ZTE MF636 modem i have is not fit for the purpose for which I bought it.
The Prepaid is an MF626 and is identical except for the software in it

My modem works fine in the big cities but is crap when the signal drops off like in smaller towns.
Even though my Nokia 6120 has several bars the modem just drops out. It has been like this since I left Brisbane and they wont refund my money.
I have had it replaced by the manufacturer and that one has died. I am picking up another one in Darwin on Monday which I dont expect to be any better.
Its not the computer as I have two laptops and it does it in both.
Am waiting on the result of a Fair Trading Dispute at the moment.

Ahhh but that is the question... would it be off topic because I don't know about the others, but I want the wireless for when I am on the road, camping and travelling...
therefore I have now made this on topic. !!

Jo,

I don't reckon it was off topic in the first place.

If a member asking where to get a radiator hose for a mate with a Toyota Soarer which isnt a 4WD is classed by the owners as On Topic, then a person who trying to figure out how the Telstra charges on a Prepaid WBB setup that they have for traveling purposes must surely be On Topic

Cheers,

Cruiser
