I have an Iridium Sat phone and am trying to clarify the pricing.
Gone Bush posted a good reference here
Telstra terms and conditions for sat phone
Page 18 onwards has the info.
I have a few questions that hopefully some who have used it can answer.
The charges to a fixed / mobile from Australia are shown as $1.181 per 30 seconds ex GST or $2.00 inc GST. This doesn't add up. I assume the latter is right.
How much is it to send and recieve a SMS?
I can remove the SIM and call 112. I get connected to 000. I asume this is free yeah?
TIA

IF you are using a Telstra sim in it the costs are roughly like this.
Ring out $3 a minute
Someone rings you
They pay the cost to ring your MOBILE number
YOU PAY FOR THE COST OF DIVERTING IT TO THE SATFONE
$3 a minute
Advantage no cost if you dont use it for extended period
Disadvantage high call cost if you use it frivously.
Sms are about 50c I think but someone will know.
All figure quoted are APPROXIMATE for those who want to jump all over me
You can get a Telstra satellite plan but may cost you $30 a month whether you make calls or not
