Went to purchase a AP50 cruise control unit this morning for my GQ 4.2 diesel patrol, called into auto barn and they only had command AP60 units in stock at $179.00( Kmart has the AP50 at $209.00 ) asked the sales assistant what the difference was between the AP50 and AP60 and would it fit my vehicle, response was don't know only sell these units.
Could someone please advice what the difference is between the 2 units and will the AP60 fit my Patrol.
All help appreciated.
regards Peter.

Peter, Found this with a google search of the newsgroups. Don't know if it is accurate or not

The difference is that one has a stalk mounted control like a blinker stalk, and the
other a control panel, about 2 by 3 inches, that sits on the dash
somewhere. Hooroo

gday peter .
im not sure about the diference in the two types but i just finished giving glen a hand fitting one of the two units(im not sure 50-60) to his 80series.cant see any reason you wont be able to fit to your patrol very user friendly fitting.
when we finished he went around the block to test and he already loves it.—~‘¬‘¥•s’B

Hi Peter,

As Diamond wrote, he fitted it tom my 80 Series on Sunday. It was the AP 50 with the control panel that taped to my dash. Looks great and works well. Can't wait to hit the open road and use it.Just Do It!

Hi Peter,
I have had a AP50 in my 80 series for about 9 months. I fitted the unit myself and am sattisfied with the end result. The Dash pad is located on a small angle bracket from the top lip of the dash just to the right of the steering wheel so I can just stretch my finger out and tap the 3 buttons. Looks neat and works well. With my 91 80 series, It uses a rotary cable for the speedo but I believe later models have an electronic pickup which I reackon you could probably tap into. See the wiring diagram. The only prob I had with mine when fitting it was I tried to use two magnets on the output flange of the trans but the unit would cut out at about 75km/h. I found I had to drop one of the magnets due to the ratio's of the 4x4 driveline. It's a little tricky to setup the brackets etc but worth it. I have lost one magnet which flung off so I have glued another on and cable tied it properly which has proved very good for a flinders trip and a bit of rough off road around roxby/leigh creek as well as my daily drive to and from work.
I dont regret the buy at all. Has saved a few speeding fines too due to the lead foot syndrome..:-)
