>> definatly getting the ranchos rs9000.

Why definatly?? The brilliant marketing strikes again!
And they dont make 9000's anymore. Only 9x (9ways).

Whats your budget, and what do you want to do with the car?

Shorty can go 8inch suspension, and 6inch body lift, depends on how many problems you want to go though. with that setup you will have nightmares, but you will run 38's easy as pie. Cheezy ran 4in sus and 2in body with 36s...

Without causing too many problems, you can go a 2inch body, and 2inch suspension should get you 33s under it easily.. But with 33's you will have to have the car engineered to be legal, which will be anything up to $1000.

Go King Springs, and Koni Shocks. Wont be cheap, but you wont be having any problems with it either, it will do you long time.

For tires, again comes down to what do you want to do with the car

definatly cause i had them befor and i can still get them it's not what you know its who you know but i didnt know about the 9x i might have to look in to it.

Budget no more than $1300,A bit of beach work and going bush not to serious but i want it to have potential.

38's i wont be needing if any thing i'll get 35;s when the 33's are worn im not getting bf's muddys mabe the a/t's or the coopers

So who do i see about the car engineering?

So when i purchase the springs or shocks will they ask what size or lenght ?

Cheers

Yes most of us can get them, but why would you want to? The failure rate amongst people I know is high.

9x is no differetn, one set lasting a week.

Budget of $1300, go with Old Man Emu 3inch lift kit, you still may end up with problems, Luke did with his, but you can run 33's easily.

To run 35's you need to cut things, move the control arm forward with spacers,

Engineering, what state are you in? Goto Vicroads/RTA etc and ask for a list of Approved Engineers.

Theres a list of them in the GQ list home page on yahoogroups.

If you're lifting a SWB GQ be prepared for driveline issues. Because of the very short tailshaft, the lift produces an acute driveline angle, and puts massive amounts of vibration through the vehicle.

After a recent 2" lift on my SWB GQ, we had to put in 1.5 OME gearbox crossmember packer kits, and rotate the rear diff to get rid of (90%) of the vibration.

Neither job was difficult or expensive, just a bit of mucking around.

I went with Enforcer Springs and shocks installed by Total 4WDrive centre in Epping Victoria, and I'm very happy with the lift.

Of course if you go more than 2" be prepared for some major modifications to keep things runnin' right :-)

Good luck :-)

You rotate the diff with caster bushes that are off set, or cut and reweld the diff

G'day Pauly,

Rod from Total 4WDrive centre in Epping rotated the rear diff for me by changing the length of the control arms at the rear. It wasn't a huge job, just a bit of cutting and welding I think. Can't remember exactly how much it was - give him a call. (03) 9401 4277

The OME crossmember packing kit to lower the gearbox angle was $32 from ARB. Installed it myself in around 20 minutes.

As I said these two things took about 90% of the vibration out of the driveline, and I'm very happy with the 2" lift, but if you go higher than 2" you'll run into big problems in the shorty.

My shorty with 31x10.5's and the 2" lift is quie capable. I might consider going up to a taller tyre at some stage, but the lift is just fine :-)

Cheers,

Luke.

Why do most shorties win the outback challenges??? Cause there the best!!
My shortie had 9" all up, with 3" body lift.
I did everything myself including designing and building my own tail shaft, which used a VT commodore CV joint to eliminate all vibrations due to uni joints knuckling.
The front diff needs caster plates to rotate the diff if going over about 3" coil lift.
Had locker in rear, and made my own front LSD center from an old MQ rear diff.
Give me a call, im in Sydney if that helps, as i have now sold the shortie (but miss it) and bought a GU
Got plenty of spares in the shed, including a LWB body if anyone needs one!!
