We are planning to travel from
Perth to
Alice Springs around the 18th December. Can anyone advise how conditions will be at that time of year?

Getting hot.
Road conditions vary depending on when graded, but corrugations build up again quickly as it gets a fair amount of traffic.

Most likely VERY hot and dry. Lots of dust and flies.

Hi
I've been across the
Great Central road in June and also worked out south west of
Warburton in late November through to Christmas on Drill rigs. I can tell you now that it will be low 40s in December everyday and you will have tropical storms coming through every few days, so expect flooding/ bogging conditions.
For your own safety, stay to the main track and take a Sat phone or have an EPHIRB. In mid 40 degree temperature you will need at least 10L of
drinking water per day per person (i was drinking 20L a day working outside there) and most importantly a car with a good cooling system. I wouldn't go that time of the year in a car that is older than 10 years, as you run the risk of having your car overheat.
Tell someone reliable when you leave and when you're due.
Regards, Will

Thanks Will, sound advice we are trying to be as prepared as we can so your experience is appreciated. We are travelling in a 2004 Landcruiser & this is the first leg in a 3 month trip so we will make sure the vehicle in top shape before we take off.
