I have recently bought Magnum340 (about 950kg) and was planning to tow with 2003 Magna 3.5L auto wagon . Van has electric brakes fitted and I have installed controller in car. With new business investment allowance I am thinking about upgrading to another vehicle.
I would appreciate thoughts about:
1. Suitability for Magna for longer distance travel. We are looking to travel to northern NSW for 3 months next year (from Adelaide)

2. Options such as XTrail, V6 Tucson, Forrester. I am thinking about something around 2.5L which will tow OK but give me reasonable comfort and economy when I use the vehicle for around town for business. Landcruiser, Patrol, Prado,Pajero or dual cabs are too big and not on my list.

Outside of the NSW trip we will generally only be doing intrastate trips on the tar so 4WD is not required.
Appreciate your thoughts

Is the 950 Tare or ATM cos it makes a big difference to the answers
Would be a pretty small van at 950ATM

It is a pop top similar design to Jayco Dove/Swan style.
Rego papers indicate Mass 720 kg
GVM or GTM/GCM 980kg
Thanks

Seems strange
Tare is the empty weight
GTM is next heaviest weight as is the weight of the van but not the towball
GVM or ATM which is the same and is the total loaded allowable weight of the van.
GCM or GCVM is the gross combined vehicle mass which is the weight of the car and the van and would be over 2000kg in your case.

Look on the van it should have a plate somewhere with the correct weights on it.

I had a look at the compliance plate.
Gross Trailer Mass 880kg
Aggregate trailer mass 780 kg
Tare kg 720kg

These were hard to read - looks like the decent number punches went missing at the Coromal factory that day and the best they could find was an elcheapo hand engraver

Sounds like normal but the plates are usually black with stamped letters
A recompliance ( alteration) plate is blue with scratched plates.
