According to the road report the Simpson track is not open and yet I heard that they have pushed a bypass around Eyre Creek so can we still do the Simpson from Dalhousie to Birdsville.
I'm a bit confused by the report.

Hi Rodney, coming to Eyre Ck from the Birdsville side there is a detour sign indicating a right turn to go the 30km upstream to the rocky crossing which is now open. Then you drive 30km back on the western side of the creek to be 200 metres from the sign!! See pic below.Image Could Not Be Found
Pic not in? Anyway, you may need to factor in the extra distance with respect to fuel. Cheers, Glenn

G’day Glenn,
You don’t have a photo of the actual bypass crossing do you? I’m going east to west and will be crossing Eyre Creek next Sunday week.
Myles.

Hi Rod and Lorna

We crossed Eyre Creek via the by-pass on 20th May, West to East. No doubt the conditions have changed by now, but at the time not difficult, just stay upstream of the Star Pickets with the orange tops.
