Hi,
I`ve unfortunately got a dud 2000 3LTR Nissan Patrol. Water is in oil, so we`re assuming blown head. (could be more) Thinking of converting to a 4.2 LTR. Anyone have an opinion? Do you think it`s worth doing? Is there only a particular year 4.2 we can use? Any feedback would be appreciated!!
Cheers

There is little benefit in those conversions , and they tend to be loss making.

I would fix it and sell it , assuming of course that its likely to sell for more than its value in being wecked.

Despite the issues that are well known in 4wd circles there is still a viable market for economical wagons as tourers in less demanding circles.

Hi Chrisntan ,
your best advice would come from the patrol 4x4 nissan patrol forum.Lots of good threads to get info on this and perhaps even repairing the 3 ltr

If you are serious about a 4.2 conversion I would look at this link . You may want to email David and get first hand knowledge of his 4.2 conversion. Hope it helps in some way.

Cheers, Trevor.

Ok heres the low down on this, i own a 2000 model Nissan Patrol 3Ltr Turbo Diesel. What can i say, i have read many many bad reports by others on Explore Oz forums, many claim to have travelled only 70 or 90 or 190,000km before their engine fails, they claim many many things and have many excuses, one could read into this all day long. To that, i would question how many of those vehicles were tinkered with, seems this website has a whole area dedicated to engine modifications, leave the thing along, service it yourself and thats it. I have travelled ...........340,000km............ in my 2000 model Nissan Patrol 3Ltr Turbo Diesel, i change oil and filter every 10,000, i travell 200km return trip to work every day, fuel consuption is 9.3 -9.8km per litre, further more i tow 3ton of boat and trailer a few times a month. Admittedly i did destroy 5th gear/overdrive when towing a car trailer to Canberra, i slowed down, assessed the noise and continued the journey to Canberra picked up a Nissan 180SX and towed the damn thing back to Bendigo, i understand if that happened in a Landcruiser the gear box would have jammed. So there you go, the Patrol isnt so bad after all.
