I still hear a few 27M CB'ers in the mornings chatting across the nation - but these seem a well a truly dead topic for mobile comms these days.

We still use 27 meg as coms because of the perception that its dead, I wouldn't rely on it to get help, but its FANTASTIC for uninterrupted conversation, EVEN IN CITYS.

Indeed - in sideband mode they run at 12W so as long as you have a known correspondent/s, they are still useful. For the solo operator entering the travelling game though, there seems no point.

I've still got my sideband unit and its clear as a bell on the 40 channels. I bought my first AM 27meg in 1973, it was $89 and that was 2 weeks pay as a second year apprentice Fitter and Turner.. Some mongrel stole it about a week later from my car So if you want to talk to yourself, you can do uninterrupted!!!! By the way, if it was anyone reading this that took it from my Gold HK Monaro, you can return it with no questions asked!!!! Michael
