Need to change oil in diffs/transfer/gearbox and so I have looked for an oil I can run through all items. Identified
Mobil Delvac 75W-90 as the likely product. I remember buying
Mobil 1 engine oil a few years ago for about $200 for 20 ltrs so anticipated a price in that range.
My fleet guys ring around and get me a price and I was somewhat surprised to get a response of $374 inc GST for a 20 Ltr drum holding somewhere between 18 and 20 litres "as it's dispensed by weight".
Does this price seem about right?

I recently brought some Castrol Syntrax 75W/90 and it was about $22 a litre. Brought 3 litres, Worst thing about it was i didnt end up using it, what a waste of money that was.

Leigh, i may be wrong but isn't Mobile Delvac and engine oil.
I have 2 prices for you in a 75/90 Mineral oil $93.50
75/90 Semi synthetic $125.50 both are for 20lt drums
If you have an LSD , i use LSD90 $26.50 4lts
You can use and LSD oil in a standard diff , but you can't use a 75/90 diff oil in an LSD diff.
cheers,
Lance

Thanks Lance. I have open diffs as factory diff locks are fitted. From what I have read on the
mobil site the Delvac term covers both engine oil and gear oil. Seems from some of the other responses that the price may be in the ball park so given it's a deductable item I will spend the $$ reluctantly and I'll have enough to do the job twice by myself rather than the workshop. I also prefer to stick with the same oil for diffs and transmission just for the convenience.
Thank you all for your advice and comments. Cheers

I bought some Castrol syntrans too a few years back - 20L drum - ended up about $13 a litre then I think - still have some. I use it in the gearbox and transfer only. For the diffs I use a LSX90 (rear and front).
Thing is.......... that Syntrans is made for the trucking industry as I recall - they use if for extended drain applications -
check it out - might be cheaper in the long run, in that it is initially supposed to be superior and then works for longer anyway.

Gday leigh,
Mine is the same vehicle as yours. Previous owner has
Mobil synthetic 75/90 in the gearbox. Shifting was OK, but is better now with the Castrol VMX-M which everyone recommends on the LCOOL site.
