Hi,

Anyone know of a source for second hand telstra canopies? I'm sure there are plenty of other groups using them, ergon, telstra, mining companies etc. Unless these groups put them on new vehicles then there must be a number come up each year.

Any ideas?

I looked for over twelve months for used/second hand. Ended up buying new. Companies that have them fitted nine times out of ten sell the the vehicle with the back on at auction.

Try East Coast Commercials at Coopers Plains - Brisbane......They have/had various bodies up against the fence on pallets. Various designs.

There was a Nissan 4.2 TD with a Rossco canopy on Pickles set price last week.

The vehicle was noted as having a heavy engine knock.

They wanted under $10k for the rig.

Many possibilities here but I see they must have sold it as not there now.

Pickles have the Nissan 4.2 TD with Telstra (rossco) canopy from about $20 to $26 most of the time.

May be sell your vehicle & buy one already set up.

Thanks but I've seen what telstra and ergon vehicles can have done to them. Don't know why more aren't broken.

There is always a doubt as with any second hand vehicle.

I have one & I am pleased as punch with it.

Telstra vehicles are regularly serviced. What needs to be done is done No crimping on the maintenance.

The one that I purchased I followed up through the service books
Spoke with servicing garage & found out who the driver was. Got the full history from him on where it had been,

I gave mine a full service, changed all the fluids & a new radiator.
Well worth the money.

Flashed up with a bit of polish & a paint touch up & the 4WD specialists want $30 plus for them.

What do you have to do to a good diesel motor to kill it.
Drive over the speed limits etc & it is pretty costly to the pocket.

I just thought the one with the stuffed motor at $9000 was less than the cost of a new canopy.
Take the canopy off & sell the vehicle as parts

That's very true and surely you'd get a few grand for the vehcile.

As for Telstra vehicles you're also right, if you can get the right one and check it out thourghly then all should be ok. I just know what a few people have put their ergon ute through and it's got to do long term damage to the chassis and drive train.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll certainly keep my eye out.

The one on my work ute leaks like a sieve. You would have to check out how good the seal design is. Cheers Tony

Hi Dave,

I'm seriously considering building one myself as well. Any chance you could take a stack of picture for me to get me on the right track?? If you're willing I'm after a truck load of pictures, underneath, inside, doors, in the corners, etc, etc. Close enough to give me some detail to get my head around what I should do.

If you're ok with it let me know and I'll post my address.

Thanks

The timber floor tray supplied for a toyota landcruiser ute as an option is over $2000.00 so deduct that from a Rosco all aluminium back.
