Well we're back from our trip to do some of Lens Roads.

All went well and we had no problems, or maybe two small ones I chickened out on going out to the Rediscovered Patience Well in the Gibson Desert and driving to the top of Sir Fredrick Range. next time.. LOL

I have 550 Photos for anyone to look at Trip 2009 Gibson Desert - Windows Live so grab a six pack she a long trip.

I have also added some plot files of the trip. Plot Swap

We will write up a blog when we get around to it, back to work Monday so wont that be fun.. :-)

Anyways Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for all the pictures, brings a lot of memories back. I hope you had a good time.

Alexander Spring Dry hey? Most unusual.

You got to within 4100m of the well, you almost made it!!! It's great country out that way.

Cheers

The weather was not the best, and I'm not good on the first leg of the trip always warring about things.. LOL

It was a lesson in naivety, to think you can look at a map and Google Earth and then drive out in a couple of hours (I need a good talking to).

Maybe next time.

We met a bloke driving the Gary at night (he called into our camp) he's tracks where out at the end of the well track, he was a rock Doctor and was on he's way back to be at Linster at 8.00 am Monday morning, and this was Saturday night! I think he found what he was looking for, he had pasted us at Geraldton Bore on Thursday. not bad hay.

read you note in the jar at Mc Phersons Pillar the one that you wrote when you went out to Alfred & Marie Range.

I hope this makes sense

Hi Richard,
Thanks for your fantastic pictures. You now have given me real itchy feet, and we can't wait. We are doing a lot of the area very soon including some remote areas out in the Great Victoria Desert. We should get a group together next year and Alan can lead to way to Patience Well.

Well done and you would have had a great trip.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi Stephen

For many years I've seen photos of the outback and around Australia, and it's good to travel and see them and put the photo in your mind into a place.

We followed your Trek note of the Sandy Blight Junction Road. it was well written and very informative. (God I hope it was you)

Yes we already have next years trip planed and Patience Well will be on it.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard,
That was me that wrote the Trek File. The only trouble is that we have to travel over 2000 kilometres just to get to the good country. I will see if I can write some more for the next trip.

Cheers

You ever notice that I must have a bent head, most of the photos look to be running up hill from left to right.. LOL

I'll have to look into that..

Hi Richard

Sounds like you had a great trip - well done.
Did it get a bit chilly our trip out to the Greta Vic a few weeks ago had us under frost a few times - but the days tended to be sunny.

Yes it was a very good trip the nights where cool to cold, I was more worried about the rain, with the crook hip I couldn't see me digging out a 3.5 tonne Troopy.

I saw you card in the box at Neale Junction last year or the year before, the box at Gary Junction is that full of cards every time I opened it about a dozen blow out.. LOL having me chase them all over to clean up..

Cheers

Hi Richard

Great photo's and looking forward to your write up on the trip as it will be a useful reference.

How do you carry the RV3? Do you load it on the Roof Rack or in the cabin with it protruding into the front seating area. Thats how I carry mine but wondering if you have found a better solution.

What does your Troopy weigh when loaded for a trip like you have just done.

Cheers
Dick

Hi Dick

I have always carried it on the roof rack, had it for five years now and only started to use it last year and have never looked back.

We found it hard to get on and off last year because of the cross bars on the ARB rack.

So I got a Rhino SPORTZ ROLLER 470MM INC MOUNTING BRKTS and mounted to the top rear bar and some nylon sheet 1000mm LG x 300mm wide drilled some hole in it and zipped clipped it to the front cross bars.

so to load it we (me & Robyn) can put it up from the rear easily, I stand on rear step lift onto roller she can push as i lift when it tips it lands on the nylon and slides forward. to remove just lift onto roller and pull, but make sure she's ready. :-)

The Troopy weighed in at 3.52 Tonne at the Bruce Rock wheat bins and I was out of her, I had to peep through the window.. LOL but don't tell anyone.

I have air bags helpers under the rear as being a RV it only has 850 Kg spring not one tonners.

Back to the RV3 i just use the belt tie downs you get in servos.

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard

Thanks for the info and the pic. Will think about the possibility of your setup however, I usually travel alone and also have a back that is not too good, that is why I have been carrying it inside the cab. It does protrude into the front area but it is not really in my way. They are a great Tent and so convenient.

I have heavy TJM springs and Polyair's on the back and if I fill the long range tank I weigh in at about 3700kg and I have the GVM increased to 3700kg so I am barely legal while I am heavy with fuel. I only fill the long range tank when I really need the fuel otherwise I run it at about half.

Cheers

Dick
