To all the friends I have made on this site, I say Boh Boh (good bye),

I have enjoyed most of my time here, I feel the dynamics of this site doesn't suit me any more.

So to all those that answered my post in the past thank you, to the friends I have made thank you and keep in touch and to those of you to whom I have had an indifferent past with I am over it.

So once this thread has run it's coarse I won't visit here again.

Cheers Steve.

G'day Steve,

I know what you mean....I've had some misgivings about the site over recent months too, but renewed my membership anyway.

I do find there is still some useful info to be had on here, but for the most part it's a bit like the various 4x4 mags.....all recycled info that has been done to death....but I understand that there are always new people looking in on the site and they don't want to have to be trawling back through the archives to see what the best dual-battery/fridge/shower/tyres/4x4/tent/camper-trailer etc etc is to buy; so they ask the same question that has been done a squillion times before.

It also gets a bit too much when people take you to task with personal insults for putting forward your personal view on a topic.

The moderators have done a good job of stamping out most of this but, sadly, they have thrown the baby out with the bath water to a certain extent.

Cheers and I hope you will still look in here from time to time....

Roachie

Its not always a member :-). You get out of the site what you are prepared to give to it.

Give kindness - get kindness

Give trouble - get trouble.

I have taken up the policy recently - If you can not help in some way (even if it is only a suggestion) do not post. That works for me.

Cheers Tony

Alloy,
How many more times will you mention that you have donated your membership to the fire appeal. This must be the sixth. You say you don't like the rants, you enjoy the freedom, yet you still insist on using this site. It seems like you have made no sacrifice for the appeal, but you want the world to think that you have.

Steve

Thats a pity.

I try to avoid threads of little or no relevance to me, thus avoiding much angst. Control the dynamics to suit your needs.

It remains a very good site for information about travel and locations. There are also people with extensive knowledge of particular subject areas who have been very helpful.

Your knowledge of Top End issues will be missed.

All the best to you Steve,

But it is worth remembering that this site is far more than a 'forum', the wealth of information covering a wide range topics and travel destinations that can be accessed for nothing is a credit to those who have created it and a boon for those who use it.

When you look at the 'traffic' stats for the site you realise that many travellers, four wheel drivers, and the like, visit it to access information...something that must benefit all involved in associated businesses. I'd encourage you to stay for that reason alone, support those that support the four-wheel drive travel industry.

Good luck either way.

The Landy....

Steve,
As your suggesting it's your "last post" I can only ask you rethink and please change your mind..

I can only reiterate what others have said, your reliable travel information about the best bit of dirt, "the TOP END" will be sadly missed.

Whatever "dynamics of this site doesn't suit you any more" are probably unknown to most of us, myself anyway, so I hope your stay away will be very short, but comforting and enforces the general consensus that you remain as a person we can call upon to assertain the latest information on the Top End that you have supplied previously.

Yes, you will be missed by many of us

Perhaps those new tour buses require too much of your time....maybe you're making too much money to remember your friends....naah, that's not you at all.
But whatever or more likely whoever has done the dirty, they have deprived this forum of an excellent resource and a nice bloke.

Well I guess you have thought it through Steve but for me, nothing has changed since I joined quite some years back (member 446). I simply enjoy having a 'chin wag' with people who want to talk about 'travelling the Australian outback' and all that goes with it. In relation to that, it's always been business as usual to me.

There is good info to be had n shared here but you have to put up with all the know alls and smart Ar$e$ along the way to get it, which spoils it for a lot of people.

A bit of 'friendly' banter doesnt go a miss, just too many here take things too far. I know where your coming from.

Farewell Steve,

I have always felt that you have made a significant contribution here.

I'm not sure I understand your comment about the changing dynamics. For me the place has vastly improved over the last year or so since the place has been cleaned up. Perhaps you are commenting on the different people who now frequent the site and the more "pure" travel/4wd/camping slant the forum has taken. I'm not sure, however, just surmising.

I've always deeply respected your contribution on Aboriginal matters, they have always added, for me, a dignified, understanding perspective.

Cheers,

Jim Best.

We took your advice recently regarding a tour through Kakadu up to Cahills Crossing but could only squeeze in a day trip, Our guide for the day was Marcell who gave the most informative 10 odd hour trip that we could have hoped for.
We are now planning a longer visit when we are in your neck of the woods with the kids and will look you up Thanks again.

Pesty,
What's evident in "Reply 32" is Steve did not abide by forum rules and regulations, I believe his post was removed for that reason

With knowledge of what Steve's deleted post said, I agree with the action of the Moderator in this instance!

As I'm now aware of Steve's reason for his original ("my last post") post, I think Steve may have got upset for no reason and he will see it for what it was - a simple mistake that has now been exagerated way out of proportion!

Steve,

I'm just one of the many. I copped a bit too over the last few years. Being ADF and passionate about ANZAC Day and a few other things probably didn't help my cause.

Willem decied a few weeks ago not to frequent this site anymore, which, I think was a real shame. He was a wise ol' character with lots to share. Maybe some of us are losing the concept of a bit humour and good natured banter?

I'm now trying to concentrate on showing people what I do on my various different projects. Hopefully people will absorbe what I write, and maybe use some of it at their own peril!

I wasn't going to renew my membership this year, but my "dearly beloved" received the renewal and paid up before I realised!

Oh well, the forum is stuck with me for another 12 months.

the forum has been overtaken by kiddie posts making uninformed stupid inane comments. Advertisers that tell blatant lies and don't answer with the best advice, and reply only to push their barrow and equipment which is often suspect in quality, design or price and importantly lack of suitability to task.

I missed answer ID:370223......?????

Anyway Steve....sorry to see you go...hope it is not for long...BUT,do what I do, that is I stay away for awhile and only come back "in" when the topic of conversation is good....but the negatives, etc, it happens with all forums and one, I hardly go back to at all, but out them all this I like this one, it is the best for me, and is the most useful of all to me, so I will always stay here.

And at it's core is a good bunch of folks who are like old friends really, but every now and again, there are those who turn up and spoil it, when all they have to do is just back off and relax a little.( maybe they do not have a life and this is how they choose to express themselves)

I love to help where I can and I do not get tired of repeated questions by new or old members...it's just when you do contribute, expect to cop it from those who see it as their responsibility to shoot you down.....you know..."my mate's mothers, aunt, who's sister's friend had one of them and it exploded.....LOL, that type of thing....there is NO help for them.

Anyway at least think about it...it is people like you that make this forum richer.

At the end of the day all forums have the same issues. If you for whatever reason get disenchanted by certain comments sooner or later you have to deal with it. (Excuse me if I'm on the wrong track).

I read a lot of things that make we think , farrrk however the education I receive via these froums is worth it's weight in gold. I have also been happy to contribute where I have some expertise. G'day Mainey,
Not wanting to take a negative approach to your statistics and would love to catch up and talk about Solar one day. I have a newly purchased panel sitting in my lounge just itching to be fitted to my next unpurchased cruiser ute.
The way I see it is this forum survey could not have come at a worse time. All the die hard explorer fans are non internet accsesable ie. many a wave length away from the internet bandwidth. And also straight after a 42% discount of membership. So do the Stats......... all the keen new members whom have only known the site to be what it is at the moment are voting as what the site is today.
Out of the 2000 odd "Voters", there are on this site, how many are new members who do not know what the sites past is?
How many of the voters emails went to spam and did not even get the message?
How many old members are out in the middle of nowhere and not even get a chance to vote?
How many members who have had enough of this site and have left for various reasons in the past that could not vote?
This site is a wealth of information for which I am so honoured to have crossed paths with in the past few years and I am sure there are many more to meet to.
There used to be a few living legends on this site for which "EXPLOROZ" should be proud of and have just pushed away for reasons that baffles the mind.
The knowledge that extends beyond just written word is priceless. These legends are what any great site needs to make it great. Friendship is forever, people on websites come and go......... and get bored very easily.
To be honest a website that boasts so many hits a day and has so very few members in a country as large as ours, with so many opportunities that is losing respect from the most knowledgeable quiet achievers in our community. I would have thought that we would need to accommodate the "OLD TIMERS" in some way to make the site unique. Some of these Old timers may one day in the future become known as the great modern day explorers being the last to travel in these less explored parts of Australia that may very soon be totally closed to the public. We can learn from there mistakes and hope not to make the same mistake. Some are as eccentric as they come, come back tirelessly and that is what makes them unique. But still they come back to give knowledge to our children to make there travel experiences a safe one
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and that opinion is entitled to be heard. If that opinion is not appropriate for the sake of the general public then we as a minority pay our fees to hear the opinion of another. I feel it should be moved to a member only section so as the 2000 odd can make up there own minds as to whether or not to read it.
sorry for the long one and hope it does not go into the big long drop.
Peter

What Truckster said.

Other forums are much easier to search and are less cluttered.

Cheers.

Peter I couldn't agree more, with your comments, Here we are a month later and i have just read this post, missed it completely as it was at the end of the Financial year, and what with stock take etc, I never even read the newsletter. So I for one who I guess could be classed as an OLD (sic) member didn't get to vote, some of the mebers we have lost lately didn't get to vote.

Bit like a pole in Iceland asking what Aircondition Units are best.. LOL

Hi Steve, I am another that has followed keenly your input to EO & consider
your contributions to be a worthy addition to the knowledge base of this site.
But, with all respect, I hope you may reconsider. If your departure is meant to
be a form of protest, it will have about as much effect as yesterdays news.If you're agrieved vent your spleen & lets move on. Stick with us mate, your
change of heart will be to EO's benefit, & the reasons for it will pass into thin
air as quickly as will your reasons for leaving.........oldbaz.

Steve,

This site is like any general community in that there is good and bad people, good and bad rules, good and bad conversations ect ect. Like any general community people have the options of adding to the the "good guys" numbers and making the most of these things or removing themselves and letting the "bad guys" numbers overun and run down the community. You are seen by many (including me) to be one of the "good guys" and the responses above add credit to this. Hope to continue to see you and your informative posts and responses on here for some time to come. If not, best regards in business and life.

Trevor.
