Hi All
We're looking to head up to Bowling Green Bay NP in August. Anybody had good/bad experiences up there? We've never been there before so it would be good to get some intel on what to expect. We'll be travelling fully self sufficient with a 4 & 5 year old. Thanks in advance!

Called in there (
Alligator Creek camping area) for one night on the way back from the Cape in 2007....stayed for 3. Great sites, great bushwalking and great facilities. I rate this as 5 star
bush camping. My notes from the trip include:
This is an absolutely outstanding getaway just a few kilometres south of the large provincial North Queensland city of
Townsville. It has everything including flushing
toilets and hot showers. The campsites are
well shaded and there a picnic table is close by to each site. Free gas BBQs are provided and these are also equipped with burners for cooking the veges or boiling
water. Wood fires are NOT PERMITTED.
There is a
ranger on site and a payphone is available. There are great bushwalks with lots of wildlife to keep you company. Some good swimming holes in
Alligator Creek and there are some small beaches along the
creek to sit back and enjoy.
Queensland National Parks encourage prebooking of sites and you can do this on line at the link provided. Self registration is also available but in the peak periods it is not advisable to rely on a space being available without booking.
I will stay there again next time I head up north.
Cheers
Pete

Couldn't agree more Pete. Seems heaps cooler than
Townsville too for some reason....maybe the shaded areas just give a false sense of coolness but I too loved the place. Didn't they shut the locked gates to
the entrance at 6.30PM so you couldn't get in or out after this???? all to keep skylarkers away from the place if I remember right. Whatever, it was very peaceful when I was there.
Regards, Trevor.

Stayed there last year, and yes you're right Trevor about locking the
gate. We were there on a weekend and it was packed with day trippers until 6.30pm then nice and quiet.
