Had a great tour of the outback with the show over the last six weeks.

The 'new' Transit van was so much better to drive and way more economic, than the old SupaTrupa Cruiser..... but......

I sure would have liked the ability to drive down a little track or further off the road to camp. I still did, but worried about getting stuck.

I saw an Iveco [how do you pronounce that?] 4x4... wonder what fuel economy they get?

Also know that an AWD Transit came out a couple of years ago in Europe. Any in Oz?

Hi Royce,
Average consumption is around 11.5 l/100k. I worked that on our weekend trip from Penrith to Bathurst, including a few ' hot' laps of Mt Panorama (in a van!!)- then the Bridle Track to Hillend, across to Sofala and home via the Bells Line.
Not a real goer on the blacktop- 90kph and it runs out of breath. But off road very capable.
Off on Sat. to Coober Pedy, Painted desert, Oodnadatta, Arkaroola etc for about 3 weeks.
Great touring vehicle. Very comfortable.

Are talking about an Iveco [how DO you pronounce that?]?

Sounds good. .... 90k/hour is sad though. I cruised on 115 down the Stuart...

Royce.
You can now take the next step in comfort and go to a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4.They are hard to find second hand but you can get a new one for $80k. Drive it like you stole it and still get 10L/100k. Eric.

Hmmm let me think..... I bought this 1997 Transit for $1300.... got it onto the road for $4000 total. Had a small problem with a blocked fuel filter, but managed to get 10,000k tour out of it. I might change the oil tomorrow. A few more dollars won't hurt I guess... !

Eric.... I'd LOVE to have one of those 4x4 Sprinters and believe me I'll watch for second hand ones until I get a bargain.... Sounds like a decade or more before they come close to my budget... but I'll be waiting.

I'm about to Google one and have a look.... can't hurt...

Cheers Royce
