I was wondering if anybody has tried the diesel / gas upgrade yet. I had it fitted to my 2.5D Mazda 4x4 and the difference is amazing. I have gained about 30 km per 1/4 of a tank. I had a larger gas tank fitted than the one recommended as it's easier to carry spare diesel than gas. Overtaking / Pulling power has also increased. I would like to hear from others.

I know of two people in our 4x4 club who have Toyota Surfs - both of them 3.0litre turbo diesels. Both had the D/Gas conversions done by the same installer who did my petrol V6 4runner. The Surf used to get a round 390KM on diesel and both are now fetching in the order of 450 -500 Km since the LPG conversion was done. Both report significant increase in performance and cleaner burning exhausts. If the circumstances warranted it, my next vehicle would be the Toyota Prado D4D and the LPG conversion, but at this point my 4runner has only clicked over 127,000km in 17 years and is still going strong so cant justify the need to part with some $55,000 +++ when the 4runner serves me extremely well.

Had my Defender done 15 months ago. The fuel consumption is relative to how much you take advantage of the extra grunt. My fuel consumption has benefitted by about 15% but the power increase certainly feels like the claimed 30%. I climb hills in 4th gear that I'd previously have to drop into 3rd to make it to the top. The Defender is underpowered and there was lots of room for improvement there so I'm very happy with it. The quotes I got varied from $2300 (which I took up from a local guy) to $4300 for another mob who are a bit more high profile. Same Diesel/Gas kit.

I had the conversion done to my SupaTrupa [1HZ 70 series] just before the engine went on it. Hopefully the two weren't linked.

The difference in power was way more than the difference I felt when I'd had it turbo charged. Remarkable. With careful driving you get much better economy too. It's just a bit expensive ... takes a while to save back.
