Hi everyone
We are looking to get a 2nd car for the family, never had a commodore before was thinking of getting a Vt or VX on dual fuel. Someone said that they are problematic with gas (leaks?), so I thought I would ask here as there is such a broad range of smart people here!!
I dont know if the gas rebate is still around I heard it was going to be reduced after July 1, so was maybe thinking of getting one that was already on gas, preferably VX with lower kms (like under or around 100k km).
I guess I have always been a Ford man, but the current style models seem to be pricier than the commodores. We thought about getting a smaller car but its just a pain with two boys not enough room! Our Hyunda Lantra blew a head gasket and its sitting under the carport!!!
So anything to look out for or to be aware of?
thanks very much, have a safe holiday period everyone.
regards
Justin

The BA falcon came out in 2002 and the BF in 2004, you would have to goto a AU Falcon the match the VT or VX in age (AU ran the same time as the VT/VX).
This is where the price difference is.
All are reliable but they are getting on in years so expect some costs in the next few years.
Most things are not cheap repairs or DIY.
As for LPG, try and get one with factory installed LPG as opposed to aftermarket.
With aftermarket LPG you can pay $2000 or $4000 for a system and guess what one is better, it also comes down the the guy who installed it.

yeh i hate the au, factory gas is not easy to find but agree with what you say for sure. I heard some great things about progas on the forums but my patrols gas that progas did is bleep ty and the
tank used was old and poor quality, so i wouldnt recommend progas!

Hi Justin
I have a VY on factory dual fuel. Had a major issue with valves at 30k was fixed under warranty, now done 155k without a hitch with one exception that was a mechanics fault not the cars fault. I average 600km a week driving nowdays, the onboard computer tells me I use anywhere between 10.5 -13.5 l/100km on gas. Been a great car. My previous 2 commodores I sold at around 240k and (both straight petrol) with no major issues with either. I reckon the 3.8 is a great motor. I tested the BA falcon (as they were cheaper) prior to buying the VY but much prefered the driving position of the Holden and seemed much quieter on the road to me, guess I am a holden man too.
Hope this helps
