We are heading to Darwin in August and are planning to do a day cruise out to the Tiwi Islands (Bathurst & Melville). Will it be worth the $600+ for the day? We spent more than that when flew to the horizontal falls from Broome a few years back but that was worth every cent. We don't just want to say we've been there, we are interested in Cultural art/ people etc and love taking the odd photo. Any feedback from those who have been would be appreciated.

I went to Nguiu on a work related (free!) trip in about 1997 and found the town fascinating and the people friendly. There was an arts shed where locals worked on paintings and store selling prints, paintings etc... Nguiu is also where the Aboriginal AFL grand final was played. I found this link Nguiuwhich has up to date info.
I flew back, in a 6 seater, through the guts of a wet season thunderstorm so I remember it well LOL.
$600 is a lot of money but the community is different to the mainland.

Hi Mish

We flew there about 2 years ago. We took the two day trip with a full guided tour of the island and an overnight bush camp - quite comfortable.

The overall trip was great and well worth the expense.

Can't remember who we went with but could track them down if you are interested.
Happy 4 wheeling

thank you for the feedback, we are still deciding. Maybe the 2 day trip is the way to go.
