hello fellow EO

I am after caravan/camping type accom' so I can attend world mtb championchips in late Aug'/ Sept. The Event will be at Mt Stromlo so a location nearby would be great. I have the van but nowhere to locate it.

Any suggestions would be very helpful. If you have space for a week, I will pay and be most greatful.

Thanks
Andy

There is a campground at the Cotter reserve, which would be closer to Mt Stromlo, however I do not no much about it. You may need to do a google search

Thankyou very much Annette and Cruiser for replying.
Both are as close as each other so I will research and make a booking soon.

Happy Days

This is a good site to read reviews of caravan parks, written by travellers who have stayed in them:

There's quite a few reviews of parks in Canberra.

I'm glad I ain't too scared to be lazy

I use http://www.epic.act.gov.au/camping.asp when in Canberra. There is an excellent bus service into the city from there ifyou don't wish to use your car at any time.

EPIC is a fair way from Mt Stromlo tho' (at least, in Canberra terms!).

I'd recommend the Cotter Reserve campground except that it might be busy depending how big the MTB event is. You pay the ranger at the campground and there are hot showers and manual-flush loos and it's a nicer spot than the parks in the 'city' itself and is just 5-10min down the road from Mt Stromlo. BBQ's are also provided and you can even have a campfire at this time of year. But, you won't get a powered site, and you'll need to pre-drill the holes for your tent pegs! :)

Andy,
as a fine upstanding member of the Canberra community.......(pause)... there is not a lot of good caravan spots in Canberra. there is one in Narrahbunda, stay away unless you like drugs and break ins. same goes for the Fishwick caravan spot.
there is a camp area at the cotter, has toilet facility, dont know about showers, but it has no power.

epic would be alright. facilities, power etc. However, the weekends at epic are used for used car sales, dog shows, horse shows/races. and anything else that Canberra can throw in there.

not a very good place for camping/caravanning, which for the Capital, is very disturbing.

Thanks everyone,
C motor Village will be the pick as I will have family with me. Not as close but a short ride away and family within easy reach of everything else.

Thanks Troll for the local perspective.
